Yup, 0 too. Our whole numerical system is Arabic. The symbols are derived from Arabic symbols. In fact, as I recall, there was some logic to it: each symbol had a number of stripes corresponding to its value.
Algebra is an arabian invention. The word algebra even comes from the arabic.
Roman numerals are based on a “fix it as you go approach”.
Ok, let’s use one I for 1!
Now, following that logic we’ll go II for 2!
Same for three, III…
Wait, this isn’t going anywhere, better try something different for 4, IV, there we go!
And so on in that fashion!
Indeed, see guys, all of those that you mentioned leads to one things : Islam supports Science, in fact it was written in the Qur’an that we must learn and educate “it’s a MUST” this whole world is a full of wonder and we should check it, but there are some restrictions, we must learn only “the good and beneficial” science. and not that which leads to death and mass destruction.
unlike…Christianity or should I be more specific the Churches of the dark middle ages that attacked science and scientists Fiercely, by burning and executing them. that’s why sadly there’s still a feud between Religion and science.
It’s not like you can always predict whether your research or discoveries lead to good or bad things, though.
I know, what I meant that we should only benefit from the good discoveries if you know what I mean and leave the bad ones behind.
If that’s the case, how come you don’t believe that humans and apes evolved from a common ancestor?
Because we didn’t Soup! :hmph:
Technically humans didn’t evolve from apes. Apes (including humans) are believed to stem from an unknown common ancestor.
Aaaah, you know what I mean.
edit : nvm
oh so now it is a different ancestor all together? I was taught in school that we came from apes. period. It has since changed?
We are apes. All apes have a common ancestor.
Meet Period: .
Over a long stretch of time, Period evolved into Comma: ,
However, some of Period’s relatives didn’t really like evolving into Comma, so they decided to evolve into Semicolon: ;
Years have passed and certain people started thinking that ; evolved from , but those people are wrong. Both ; and , evolved from .
Both ; and , have a common ancestor, that ancestor being .
Fairytale version:
Meet Questionmark: ?
? created . , and ;
? . , and ; lived happily ever after.
smart explanation , what does this “common Ancestor” looks like ? if any one is kind enough to post a pic that would be appreciated.
That could provide to be quite tricky, since there weren’t any cameras back on those days.
But a discovery in 2004 led scientists to believe that this little fellow is the last ape-human ancestor before the great apes/humans.
A more recent discovery (2009) has led scientists to believe that this one here is a very good indication of the common ancestor of monkeys, apes and humans.
:hmph: How can we have a pic of a creature that lived billions/thousands years ago.
Edit: Bolteh the ninja
What’s your standpoint? Judging by this post, I imagine you don’t agree?
yea, like we don’t have sketches based on fossils :hmph:
I never agreed soup, but that didn’t stop me from studying what I was taught so that I could pass a stupid test in junior high. Like I said, I was taught that all of us came from apes. I am simply asking for clarification on what exactly is being taught in the schools today as apposed to what was taught in the 70’s and 80’s.
