Ask a Muslim!

Not sure if this applies to the Muslims in the Jordan, but there are quite a few Turks and Morrocans in Belgium. And if there’s one thing they all have in common, it’s that they live in a filthy cruddy shack with their entire family, yet they all drive expensive BMW’s, Mercedes’ etc.

So I was wondering of cars are some sort of status-symbol in the Muslim culture? us Belgians for example, consider our homes to be our pride and joy, and we generally make sure that our homes look nice and clean.

eww…that sucks. it has nothing to do with cars :stuck_out_tongue: I’ve seen some Pakistani “who have shitload of money” living in shacks and have the latest mobile phones and cars, I think it has to do with being “cheap” if you know what I mean xD, we’re just like you, the house is the important thing in our lives, then comes cars and all the other accessories. sadly the ugliest houses here in jordan are of those Palestinian immigrants, they’re all glued together you know, they’re ugly and badly shaped, I know it has nothing to do with being “Palestinian or jordanian” but I think mainly because they’re simply “poor”.

I can personally vouch that this is not so.

Well, not shacks, but still, cruddy houses.

No.

Well then I do not know which part of Belgium you live in, because in Ghent, they flock to the “ghettos” (the outer rims of the city) where they occupy the cheapest possible (cruddy) houses and then don’t even bother fixing them up; yet they drive fancy cars with lots of bling bling.

I live in Antwerp. Borgerhout to be exact. I have been in several Turkish and Moroccan people’s houses, including near the city centre, and they weren’t crummy. My neighbours also don’t have a fancy car, but a nice house.

It really depends… there are a few near where I live with VERY nice houses and very average cars… visited a few… the ones who take care of their families also take care of their houses I’ve noticed…

There are a large amount of lebanese immigrants though who live like some you described… their houses are in terrible shape and they put everything into driving a blinged up sports car… they also treat their families terribly…

But I wouldn’t put it on their religion, more the state in which their families immigrated… a lot of the people with good cars and crap houses and crap attitudes, their parents who immigrated were illiterate in their OWN language, had very few employable skills and so lived on welfare all the while feeling resentful for being unable to be productive with the skills they had, their kids were raised with that feeling every day…

But it’s not the religion, other kids have turned out in a similar way who have a different religion or NO religion but had family issues because their parents wasted away the best years of their life and never got good enough at anything to provide a good upbringing OR a good role model/mentor. And kids who, when they go to school, have to walk or are driven in a shit car where all their peers can see, and they need to feel important, which leads to them buying blinged up cars and being dicks…

well said.

I think a lot of the things people associate with Muslims are down to cultural influences rather than religious ones. The whole bhurka thing, for example.

that’s another thing. People viewing Arabs (or middle-easterners as a whole) and being Islam as being congruous with one-another.

Religion =/= race.
Some people seem to have trouble with that one =p

I destroy your house because I have a much better plan in mind for using that land. As of you, no other houses will be available so you’ll have to roam the streets.

I just symbolized you as a religious person’s faith in their god, and your house as religious structures. Doesn’t really sound all that good, now does it?

You can sleep, eat and relax in your house, in churches, the most use they can serve is being occupied by illegal immigrants because they know priests will help them.
You can put a few houses in place of a single church and entire families can live in them, or you can waste people’s time for years by having them go to church and do something that has had no effects that can be explicitly tied to going to church.

That’s a good point, FFFUUU. Even if one doesn’t find something to be useful, that doesn’t mean others don’t.

It is why I fully believe antitheism to be just as bad as fundamentalist theism. Just as fundamentalist theists (extremist Muslims, extremist Christians, etc) seek to impose their values and beliefs on others, antitheists seek to impose their values and beliefs on others.

Oh, and by the way, before you say that I’m trying to impose my values and beliefs on antitheists, I paraphrase Martin Luther King Jr, “I call on you to be intolerant of intolerance and to hate hate.” These are not contradictory statements. To say that one tolerates intolerance, for example, then they’re just fine with intolerance.

I’m sorry, but I’m not.

extremist Muslims, we were warned about them “Al-Qaeda to be specific” 1400 years ago by Mohammad, so those extremists are considered mass murderers and must be executed, in the Qur’an there is a verse that roughly translate into : he who killed one innocent person is as if he killed the entire people, so killing an innocent is a terrible sin and punishable by death, there are certain rules apply to this kind of punishment:

1-if he killed an innocent person.
2-if he was a drug-dealer <----as corny as it may sound but we all know how dangerous these men are.
3-rapists if the right rules apply to him.

I hope this cleared some stuff.

Shadi: One doesn’t need to kill to be considered “extremist” in my view. Even if someone tries to pass a law via their personal perception of their religion that imposes their values and beliefs on others, I consider that to be extremist, too.

this “extremist” you’re talking about, if was let freely to do what he wants he’s gonna kill people, and he’s gonna “brainwash” lotta of young men to do their disgusting bidding. am not just talking about muslims, jews have the mosad, Christians…hmmmm ? KKK ?

I wasn’t singling out any religion. Nor was I saying that he would kill people. Some are perfectly okay with using their religion as a means to subjugate others.

I’m quite sure that’s not what religion was supposed to be for.

The problem isn’t that there’s not enough places to build houses, it’s the location. For instance, I’d rather live here in NYC than in Arizona, with the hot weather, and yet people live in Arizona too. Plus, there are far more “useless” structures than religious temples.

your sig made my day xD
