The anti-homosexuality thing is what really confuses me about a religion that’s supposed to tout peace and understanding. I’m pretty sure any deity would respect free thought and empathy over unbridled faith and hate, even if its something that goes against his opinions. I would assume an omnipotent, omniscient god would have the common sense to let slide differences and disagreements. For knowing all things he certainly seems quite bigoted and self-absorbed.
There’s a modest mouse quote I like, “if god takes life he’s an Indian giver.” What’s the Muslim opinion in this statement? Does Allah take life, or plot the course of each humans life or does he let the will of man take its course? And if he his the puppet master behind our thoughts, explain the need for jihad, which, if I remember correctly, is a series of tenants meant to protect Islam. Doesn’t it seem like a child playing with toy soldiers in a sense?
I’m pretty sure the homosexuality thing is cultural for the most part, and not actually reasonably based on anything in the Koran. Kind of like it is with many Christians.
At that time I was gone for 3 days and had no internet. After I came home again the thread was already filled with rage and closed by Catz so I couldn’t say anything.
I have a question. Muslims believe that the Bible is tainted because of it being in the hands of man for so long. So what makes the Qua’ran the perfected version?
The problem isn’t based on homosexuality. Islam teaches you how to behave in terms of sexuality and makes you understand what it means. It teaches you to differ between nature and soul. In Islam the soul is a rule that is indefinite like any other rule. The human body is generally the same as of other mammals. So are the instincts. If you compare orangutan dna with human dna both matches 96%. In order to live we have to eat, drink, sleep and have sex. Reality proves that we can’t live only with these things. It’s very interesting that new borns die if they aren’t loved. Love (I am speaking of real love, not sexually or in any other fleshly form) is one thing that makes us human and differentiates us from animals clearly. In this way man can love other man but NEVER sexually.
In Islam death is being seen as a state change. It’s a simple switch from one state to another. During death soul seperates from our body and we continue living without our body. Sleeping is called “the little death” because in this time we have absolutely no control of our body because our soul is partially seperated from it but we can still “live” in our dreams.
Allah isn’t bound to time or space. He cannot be surprised by anything because he has everything under control. He knows the future the the past and the present at any time. Example: If you look downwards to the street you can see someone who will walk past a corner. You can see both sides of the corner and the person itself. But you can’t be sure if the person will make a turn or not. That only Allah can know. Under this circumstances our fate and life is already set since the beginning of time. But we have a free will. If Allah wanted everyone to believe in him he wouldn’t gave us a free will. It’s our choice if we accept him or not but he already knows what side we will choose.
Your understanding of jihad is wrong. Jihad means fight which comes from another word to struggle. The biggest jihad is the fight against your own egoism. Jihad is there to protect peace freedom and justice. It also has a meaning in terms of military fight but it can never be misused to legitimate killing innocent because that would be contradictory to half of the qur’an.
I hope my grammar fail up there won’t confuse you much.
In this way, aren’t we no more than robots carrying out a predetermined program? If I walk down the street and Allah knows I’m going to turn left at the upcoming intersection, but I don’t know that, do I have free will to turn right or do I have to turn left at the intersection?
If so, what is “free will”?
@Shadi: I take offense to your assertion that we’re just being snarky or trying to waste time. People like myself truly would like to know these kinds of things and to say that I have an ulterior motive – that I don’t really care and am just trying to trick you or something else like that – is both offensive and not conducive to furthering the conversation. Thanks.
I don’t understand how the middle section leads to that last sentence. You’re somehow suggesting that homosexuality isn’t even possible, let alone a sin. That’s patently untrue.
I know what you mean. They’re individuals and don’t represent the Islam and what it stands for and not all Muslims are like that, etc.
Well, not all Americans think that Japan deserves it after what they did in 1941 at Pearl Harbor. But seeing how you seem to think that something like that is typically American, let’s just go through with them generalizations and say that the statement is typically Muslim as well.
will yeah you’re right, Generalization is a terribly dangerous tool which the Media uses always. the Problem is not with the Americans as People, the problem is the sources they Get educated from.
