In English? ha, I doubt.
I don’t know those commandments. and in Georgian bible ten commandments are those which I wrote up.

That’s what I said. Also, you say that the Catholic Church changed the Bible to suit its agenda. How do you know that it wasn’t God telling the Catholics what He wanted?
Wait, I’m an atheist and know the Bible better than you? I provided book and chapter. What you wrote up are the ones commonly called “The Ten Commandments” but they aren’t the “Ten Commandments” according to the Bible. Mine are. You can look it up if you don’t believe me. Exodus 34. Go. Look.
Those that you listed (and most everyone else lists) are simply commandments that number ten in quantity. They aren’t THE Ten Commandments.
They aren’t The Ten Commandments they are different commandmets and the ten commandments I posted are those which I wrote, also abut knowing bible better, I just believe in god I am not a theolog but you are trying to prove the god doesn’t exists so you look for every clue to it and most “clues” can be found in bible so accordingly you know bible better(or the parts you need)
No, I’m not trying to prove that deities don’t exist. I can’t. No one can. It’s an impossibility to prove that something doesn’t exist anywhere in the universe. What I want from you are these “clues” that show, demonstrably, that YOUR deity is the CORRECT one in relation to ALL THE OTHERS…when ALL THE OTHERS have just as much evidence for them as YOUR DEITY.
Do you have anything to show me?
Also, Exodus 34 shows that they ARE the Ten Commandments. Are you now saying that the BIBLE is wrong?

Another problem with translation of old books is that the context of those books, that is, the culture is lost. For instance, Hebrews at that time believed in numerology. In Rev 13:18, the bible mentions that 666 is the number of the beast. That number is the code associated with the name of Roman Emperor Nero (or maybe someone else), it was a way of Hebrews to communicate with each other and say that Nero was their enemy.
When the bible mentions eternity, the Hebrew word used was olam, and the Greek word was aion, and those words both literally mean age. An age is an astrological period of around 2150 years. The problem is, sometimes, that term cannot mean eternity.
For instance, if you translate aion as eternity, the translation of Mat 28:20 would be “…end of eternity”, which makes no sense. The literal translation would be “…I am with you all days, even the end of the age”.
On the other hand, when Jesus says “eternal punishment” (Mat 25:46), the word used for eternal was aiōnion, which means age-long or practically eternal. So, that means Jesus never said the punishment is eternal.
Another proof that Jesus didn’t mean eternal punishment is Jude 1:7, which says:
Some translations change the last part to suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. But the versicle is talking about the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, and there is nothing eternal about that. The only thing that is eternal is the memory. Maybe the term “punishment of the age” or “age-during punishment”, at that time, meant “the worse punishment of this age”, like we say today: “the game of the century”, which means “the most remarkable game that occurred in this century”. Or maybe it meant: “it is a punishment that will be remembered for an age”. But Judas is certainly not talking about hell.
The best explanation is that Jesus was talking about destruction, disasters, diseases, misfortune…
Another translation mistake are that, in some bibles, the words Sheol, Hades and Gehenna are all translated to hell. However, Sheol and Hades were the place that all souls went, good or bad, and that was a resting place, not a place of fire, anguish and pain. Gehenna, as danielsangeo already noted, was the name of the Valley of Hinnon, where Israelites used to sacrifice their children by fire.
In other words, the bible doesn’t say anything about hell.
^ :awesome:
good video but nothing wise(through music has its effect!)
Did you not understand anything of what Dr. Sagan said, Assassin?
This is essentially what this thread has boiled down to. Unless both of you can actually move on from contradiction, this thread serves no purpose.
I’m sorry; I’m trying to converse like a rational adult speaking on a subject as I would any other subject. I’m not trying to be argumentative.
Hey, sorry I wasn’t having a go, you seem like a reasonably level headed guy, it’s just that Assassin will, under no-circumstances change his opinion, and unfortunately discussion with him seems tedious.
I mean take the above video. Of course it’s a very rational and observant viewpoint on the human condition, yet Assassin has basically stated, “Nope, not wise, don’t give a fuck…”, and refuses to even entertain the idea of what it is trying to say.
Anyways, no bad vibes, I’m just tired of returning to this thread and seeing waves of people try and discuss religion with this closed-minded fanatic.
That was kinda lame.
So God didnt create the universe for a particular people group. Durr.
And we long for a God, for a meaning. And thats a problem?
Your first part is right. Even the whole 666 thing. Thank you.
How about Mark 9
If your eye causes you to sin, tear it out! 59 It is better to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye than to have 60 two eyes and be thrown into hell, 9:48 where their worm never dies and the fire is never quenched.
I don’t think that’s what Sagan was saying. I believe what he was saying is that SOME PEOPLE believe that God is only for a particular people group and that’s the people he was talking to.
There’s no problem with longing for a God or a “meaning”. Where did Sagan say that it was a problem? And who is saying that it is a problem here in this thread?
Also, Mark 9:45 doesn’t say “hell”. It references Gehenna/Valley of Hinnom in the original writings.
Wait - were the terms ‘durr’ and ‘lame’ referring to Sagan?
‘Durr’? Really?
well.
The statement that God favors certain people more deserves the response ‘durr’ but I think Sagan agrees with me on this point.
lame referred to the video, not to Sagan. I dont really know the guy too well. Im sure hes a smart guy.
Many people that believe in God, specifically, the god of Abraham, believe that God favors them.
Yes there was nothing special. there is nothing rational and observant. this viewpoint is more like - NO GOD, HUMANS CONTROL EVERYTHING. I don’t think so and don’t consider anything wise in it. I’d better read bible than listen to him because there are more wise thing even for non-Christian.
agreed, god loves anyone same.
