An outsider's point of view on Black Mesa Release

Don’t be jealous, your time will come when he’ll be ban.

says the new cockroach

And I post the same amount (if not more) in other sections of the forum, because I never browse the topics, not even once. I always use new posts and reply to the newest ones if I have something to say.

Never before have I ever seen anyone so bloody serious in all my life.
You are a test A.I. for rocket construction, yes?

Methinks that firefly101 is the same as a certain other poster, though I don’t have access to prove such a thing… They have very similar posting styles.

Ok, sure. The opinion I was sharing has gotten poor reactions from many so I may as well drop it from my vernacular. Merely repeating some of the sentiments I’ve seen from the devs.

Anyway, the “we’ll get there when we get there” sentiment is hardly singular to BM devs; in fact, it seems like a pretty common one in the game making industry. Why should we have any problem with that? They don’t want to be tied down to a date they may not make. That’s fine. But the fact of the matter is we have proof that they’re still working and that the mod has every sign that it’ll be released. Maybe it’s just me, but my personal interactions with devs suggests that there is no need for this “break of silence”… because they haven’t gone silent. They’re still involved in the community and are answering questions, etc.

This probably didn’t allow me to articulate myself any better, but w/e.

The internet sure is serious business huh?

For me personally, it’s not really about getting a release date. I accept ‘when it’s done’ as long as there’s advance official notice of a real release date and it doesn’t just show up on the site one day. I don’t even really care if there’s news, but it’s beyond irritating to come to the site and find twitter on the front page with ‘last update 343 days ago’ and the last post in the news forum at 14 months ago given how many ‘updates’ there have been across the forums in random threads or on the wiki. The people who religiously browse the wiki and troll on these forums are not the only people who want updates.

Honestly, at the very least, it would just make sense to kill the news section of the forum and remove the twitter account, at least then it would feel like they weren’t failing at something they obviously INTENDED to do at some point. If that intent has changed, the site should reflect that.

Well, now, what would a forum be if it weren’t there for people to bitch and complain and share ideas? NOTHING. But it never ceases to amaze me how many brave souls (being facetious) talk to people like they are some big loud bigots with a thing against gay people and women. Fag this, bitch that, did your mom teach you to talk like that, and if so was she trying to collect on some life insurance policy she opened on you? Because if you tried to talk to REAL people like that you’d probably be beat down or worse. So be lucky there’s these free to bitch places called forums where you can act tough and with authority where you could not in your menial and limited existence. Just like folks whom are told to “GTFO” by people of limited vocabulary because they want to share their grief.

:expressionless:

wtf are you talking about, no one has said anything remotely offensive for at least a page

Nice post. I’m with you.

Vormaen, I couldnt agree more. People are too quick to offend others and throw out totally un-called for insults, especailly on this site. Its easy to hide behind the safety of your computer and jab at people. But get them out in real life and I bet most wouldnt say shit if they had a mouthful. But hey, its the internets.

Back to topic… I mostly lurk around here and moddb and dont post much but this thread has brought up valid points for both parties. I dont research/play alot of others mods so I cant even personally make a good comparison. The only other mod I follow is Goldeneye Source, where things did seem to go slack for a long period of time. But when it got rolling again, the team was doing all kinds of news updates, podcasts, media, etc. It was just nice to know that they really cared for their community and it just dosent seem the same here.

But I doubt that it would stunt too much progress to put a news update out to make some people rest a little easier. But hold on, before you tell me to GTFO or STFU, yes I understand that the BM does not owe any of us anything, updates, media or this mod even. But if youre gonna put yourself out there and become as noticed and hyped as BM, it would seem fitting to keep the community somwhat in the know, at least more than they have. A year has passed without any big headline official news of some kind. Ok, tidbits here and there in the wiki but the moddb page still reads the same update from the end of 2009. Twitter, 300 something days ago. Latest news section here, internal schedule : on time. Its like a news media ghost town.

The other side to that arguement is “well if they say anything, it gets taken out of context and mis-construed.” Which is true, but just say nothing instead? I get it, example: catz said something about “dont expect the game to release within the next two months”. Then morons jump out of the woodwork saying “omg, its gonna release in two months!” No… thats not what that means… but when the information is so slim to none and so vauge, people are going to make their own assumptions, its human nature. Or “there will be a break in silence before the years end” and then nothing. I’m sorry but thats a fucking let down man, people are gonna be pissed at that, naturally imo. But many others would be happy just to hear something from the team, I know I would. Look, it may not seem this way from my incesive rant I got goin on here but whether this ever even sees the light of day is irrelevent in the scheme of things for me. Its just a game, a damn fine one but just a game. I’d like to see it release just so these viloent forums and come to an end. Ha, who am I kidding?

LOL Ive been reading through this thread to find what looks like posts completelly oblivious to the others, saying that everyone is insulting eachother… when they dont. Especially Vormaen, the only swear words (minus f**k) I see mostly in your posts…

Wow, that’s a new record for the Black Mesa Forums!

Fuck you, Asshole! /terminator

@Onemanwolfpack

I entirely agree with you. Personally, although I have always believed that the developers don’t owe us anything, but by releasing media, promising things and updating on a regular basis, even though that may only be once every 3 months, they are setting their own standards. And when these standards fall flat, promises aren’t delivered and there is silence for over a year, frustration is understandable, if not condonable.

Unfortunately, sane, constructive posts like yours and mine just seem to fall on deaf ears. I’ve been here since 2006 and the forums have never been as bad as this. There seems to be no room for honest, mature discussion without someone trolling, which then sets the rest of the members off. It’s a damn shame. And I can’t help but feel that the devs, whether purposefully or not, are the cause of this new wave of angry newcomers.

Now I sound old haha. Guys, where’s the love? Where are the moderators come to think of it?

O hai guise. Wuts goin on in tihs thred?

I fail to see how there is any sane or constructive things at all being said in this thread. All this thread seems to be is a soap box for people to complain about how the devs are handling PR, and how they know how to do it better. Every person that posts here has their own ideas about how things are supposed to be done, but they are all going to have to accept that it’s going to be done the way the devs want to do it.

^this.

Other people giving their own opinion on the matter is not the same thing as falling on deaf ears. Also, the trolling and stuff has been quite minimal in this thread as far as I can see (although I didn’t read the whole thing).

I think it’s Spain.

Maybe, but it’s hard to tell. I don’t speak Spanish.
