An intelgent dicussion regarding the "7 hour war"

This is not 4chan, so don’t “Nope /thread” me. Also for someone who cares so much about spelling and such wouldn’t the correct way of saying that be

“Nope. End of thread”
?

I guess spelling mistakes only are bad when other people do them.

Anyway I’m at a strong belief we could have won the war the first time. Suffered huge losses. Then been attacked again and lost. I honestly find that to be much cooler then “lol we just lost in 7 hours”. There could have been an entire story arc based on the attack, a huge war, with much more depth and character

umad?

Oh thats’s right, you invented the internet and its rules of slang. :stuck_out_tongue:

You sir, are asking for trouble.

Well your wrong. You’ve had 3 pages of people telling you otherwise and 3 games showing you how much more advance the Combine are to humanity, but because it’s not cool enough for you your not going to believe it.

An interdimensional race of telepathic aliens use interdimensional travel to drop in a worlds worth of synthetic organisms bred to destroy and conquer planets. A planet in this case whos ‘master’ inhabitants have only just evolved long enough to start on nuclear technology, and glimps at teleporter technology.

Theres nothing less meaningful of less deep having a war last only seven hours because it’s so one sided, that’s ludacrous, especially in regards to the context of the game. If your looking for an alien invasion game that isn’t as one sided there are tons to be found, go play them.

XD

Saved. You guys have the best pics.

So is this thread gonna degenerate into insults, flaming and randomness like everything else on this forum now, eh?

I do agree that the combine out do us by at least 1000 years. However if the combine were as strong and as smart as you say they are why can’t they stop a rebel force? You mean to tell me the million+ soldiers and thousands of artilery weapons lost…yet a few people with mp7’s, shotguns and RPGs can somehow manage to make an effective rebellion? The combine are one of my favorite game villians however they are just stupid. They are about to get there interdementional asses handed to them by a scrap metal robot, a few humans and a man with a crowbar. You know I’m right. Also I’m writing this on my phone, sorry for any mistakes.

I always believed by HL2, the Combine have pretty much pulled out themselves and were confident Breen could handle things, so only left a fraction of what their army originally counted to be before they left, that and Breen’s failure at not just killing Gordon outright, the Citadel failing and aliens running around everywhere, must be pretty confusing. So it’s not so much that the Rebellions just kinda ‘beating’ the Combine all of a sudden, it’s a whole bunch of tiny things that fucked them over. Which is why I’m wondering what will happen when the Combine really begin to take notice.

I misjudeged uory forebe! Lpease tinconue ot rbing teh saweome! And that’s what separates the HL universe from every knock-wood POS chunk of fiction your greasy ass lately came upon. This fiction endures, and has it’s own reality as evidenced by every other person on this site than you. You feel the need to nitpick where the practical environment was sussed almost 15 years ago, to the derision of your peers and rightly so. Nobody told Tolkien he was full of shit; nobody dared to fuck with Lovecraft…and King would shove his orthotic-enhanced foot up your skivy ass…because he’s alive and well enough to do it. This is your dismissal, you are hereby relieved.

I do like half life, however not every other fps is shit. Recently ide agree some are way overloved. Yet sometimes people need to try other things. Like Halo (ohnoeslolnothalo) it gets a bad wrap, yet its a great game, sadly the games aren’t nearly as great as the books when it comes to story. Halo has a vast, deep and rich story. Sadly bungie did a meh job of telling it. But its another universe worth looking up, even if you don’t have any interest in the games.

Good thing this isn’t a forum for Halo love. Buh-bye.

I was not aware the human mind was only capable of liking one thing. I’m sure after thousands of years of being dominant that our minds would allow us the ability to enjoy multible things. Half life and Halo have no reason to hate eachother, valve has never dissed bungie. And bungie has haver shunned valve. I bet you anything the folks at bungie play half life, and the people at valve play halo. You can like both. However if you have a legit reason for not liking halo, in regards to story or game please tell me…I know enough about half life and halo to love both.

Holy shit bro, you must get a massive burn on your calves from all that frantic backpedaling. I’ve not seen that kind of backpedaling since the 2004 election. And to satisfy your feeble, nonsensical pissargument, nobody here hates on Halo, 'mmkay buddy?
Post-Script: I feel stupider for responding to anonymous poster with “Intelgent Dicussion”: as the subject line because it’s been anything but.

This, and remember the combine home world is so different that their bodies cannot survive on earth without augmentation and vice versa (Breen’s host body). The combine forces on earth are humans that have been manipulated to various degrees. Rather than keeping a large garrison force, they use tech like the suppression field, memory altering water and the conversion of humans into synths

12?

lol’d

Also I’m pretty sure Breen would rather be dead than getting tormented at the hands of the advisors for fucking up so badly with so many power in his hands and against a weak opponent.

I kind of just scrolled to the bottom so I have no idea if someone’s already answered this.

The Combine fought in the 7-hour war were likely an invasion force a la the United States in the actual war of the second Gulf War. The actual fighting between soldiers was over fast and with great efficiency - the force that you fight in-game is just an occupation force, like the US trying to stabilize Iraq after Saddam’s army was defeated; still a part of the universe-devouring military force, but a completely different and much more sedentary beast than the initial force that took it over.

Of course I’m using the second gulf war as a crude metaphor, the combine are technologically superior, have vastly more resources, and had several different enslaved alien species to serve as soldiers. So yeah - 7-hours is relatively long if you think of it with those odds.

*EDIT: I also think it justifies why they would have issues with capturing/killing a lone scientist and an ill-equipped resistance movement. I’d think any modern military could tell you that it’s much easier to steamroll your enemies than try to accurately and precisely remove embedded potential threats.

I think the Combine were powerful to take us out in a short time, but 7 hours is still a little short more me. I mean just think about moving from point A to point B, transportation takes time, and if im correct, the combine hadn’t mastered accurate teleportation at the time of the war. Just going from place to place would take a few hours.
