Aliens Vs. Predator demo

I will try this, despite rots warnings :fffuuu:

And spleenite, don;t doublepost dickweed
.

Yes.

Ok, I’m seeming to be let into more servers now. I guess it needs there to be lots of players in a server in order for it to start so now that more people have heard about it I was able to get into a game.

I wish the demo had the DX10 and 11 features unlocked.

The demo has its issues (poorly documented, unintuitive UI for setting up multiplayer matches, confusing controls particularly for Predator weapon switching, etc), but it’s fun anyway. Do yourselves a favor and get into a Steam group whose purpose is to set up matches for the demo, because the matchmaking is broken.

If developers fully utilized steam and dedicated servers… that would be great.

It’s kind of annoying trying to figure out the controls on your own, especially for every playable class.

Gonna see how the Xbox version is gameplay and graphics-wise.

They do. The demo, for whatever reason, “is based on pre-release code and in no way reflects the final build.” The prevailing theory is that this demo is actually the very same demo people played at E3 last year, just with the multiplayer balancing tweaks they’ve made since then added in.

The same as the PC demo, really, because the PC demo is limited to Directx 9. Even so, it’s a very nice-looking game, and it plays well once you get to know how the controls work. It would’ve been nice to have the ability to start the demo in a stand-alone manner so that you can familiarize yourself with the controls without getting slaughtered, but for whatever reason they decided against that. To play you have to get into a deathmatch game, and with matchmaking being as broken as it is, the best way to get a game going is to fill your group with like-minded friends from your Steam list.

Using a Steam group chatroom works really well, actually. I can usually get into a game within seconds of saying “looking for a game” in chat. Somebody says “join me,” you right-click and join their game, and as soon as the lobby fills up, you’re playing.

It’s a FFA deathmatch, however, so don’t expect anyone to be doing much more than running around and ganking each other with the stealth/trophy kill function. It’s gruesome, it’s satisfying, it’s funny as hell, and because the controls aren’t documented it’s all that most Predator players can figure out how to do.

Alright, I played the PC demo with xalener.
The controls are REALLY fucked up. I mean, they feel way too clumsy and slow.

Regardless, I had fun, even though I had no idea where the fuck I was going as an Alien and get owned all the time.

i hope to see a better menu interface in the final version, along with dedicated servers.

This demo build seriously reeks of console to me. The final version should be better, hopefully.

yeah, It’s filthy controlwise, I could never get the alien’s “Transition” to work whatever the hell that does anyways.

although it is increadibly fun to play anyways. alien is my favorite by far, but the other two are great aswell.

I think “Transition” is what lets you walk on walls without jumping. Pointless.

Xbox version is more satisfactory, I think. Especially on a giant fucking television.

NOW I see why PC gamers hate console ports.
Seriously, it’s not just the actual gameplay. The menu interface sucks! And why the hell aren’t there any dedicated servers? Thanks Infinity Ward!

And why we think console players are idiots for using consoles.

more and more games are dropping dedicated servers, if valve can pull something amazing like porting over some mods to the 360 version of L4D2 then there might be hope…

What happened to the good old days of PC gaming when PC titles didn’t get fucked over because of the dominating console market? Sigh…

Gaylo happened.

Thank you MW:2 for starting a stupid trend in the PC gaming market…

Let’s see, first impressions…

So far I don’t like it much. When I finally got connected to a game, I found the controls were a little unresponsive and awkward but not hard to figure out. However, it did feel like getting good with them was going to be a challenge. And yet I’d run into people and die in a second or less. And I’d also spawn right next to someone who of course would kill me instantly.

So if they can 1) tweak the controls, 2) fix the spawning system, and 3) nerf damage a bit to make the fights last longer I’d be interested. Right now if a fight takes a while it’s because the players can’t find and hit each other (especially seems a problem for aliens). It looks quite nice, a good atmosphere, models, animations, etc., but without good programming and innovation its just eye-candy. Of course I know it’s pre-release code but this is what I think needs to be done. I also would like to see how the single-player goes. In a lot of SP/MP games the SP is much better.

P.S. As I play more I may find that the controls are fine but first impression is somewhat clunky. Also it’s FFA only right now and I prefer teams, so those who prefer FFA may think the gameplay is fine.
