I’m never playing A:CM again now, trust me.
My bad, that one then.
Just played an hour and ten minutes of Alien isolation. Damn, this game is extremely gorgeous. It looks and feels so right. They really did a damn good job with this one. My one complaint is that I can’t jump, but that’s it. It doesn’t even really bug me though, because the atmosphere is so spot on.
A lot of complaints levied against this game involve the fact that you have to do door opening and hacking moves over and over. I see what they’re saying, but I think these moments actually add tension because you know that you have to do the task while the Alien still roams free. You have to do them when you think you’re safe, and oftentimes you’re not.
Yeah, the hacking/door “puzzles” really are an important part of the tension imo.
@Lord: Yeah, I thought I was going to be really bugged by not being able to jump at first too, but after a little while it isn’t a bother at all.
Is there a vault like Outlast?
I’ve never seen any but the first two, and from what I’ve heard, there’s no reason to do so.
Alien3 has its charms but its too much of a clusterfuck to enjoy in any serious way. Alien Resurrection is just a campy joke of a movie. Maybe if you were to watch them as “funny bad” movies they might be enjoyable, but as a die hard Alien and Aliens fan I was pretty disappointed.
Alien3 was enjoyable enough if you decide that it was fan fiction and had absolutely no relevance to the actual aliens universe. Alien Resurrection, uhm, well it was a movie. I guess.
AvP and PARTICULARLY AvP2 were just terrible, terrible things that should never have happened.
Alien 3 really fucked over the ending of Aliens. I’d prefer to believe that it never happened.
Oh yeah, I’ve already forgotten that I can’t jump. Now I just really enjoy it. And the amount of hacking you have to do really isn’t overbearing. A door here, a door there, but they’re not all over the place. I have turning my back to everything to stare at a door though. Tension.
Well if you accept Prometheus as canon now AvP doesn’t work as part of the canon. So at least there’s that. I just hope the sequel to Prometheus clears up the first movie…
After Alien 3 was released, I remember actor Charles S. Dutton (who plays Dillon, leader of the prisoners) stating that a far better movie was made and that it was ruined by decisions made during the movie’s editing process.
The only worthwhile part of the movie was the interaction/relationship between Ripley and the prison’s Dr. Jonathan Clemens, portrayed by actor Charles Dance.
Charles Dance is a hell of an actor that’s for sure. I hope that if they do decide to continue the Alien franchise in the future that they do so under Sigourney Weaver or Ridley Scott’s blessing. James Cameron said he would never come back sadly, since he thought that AvP ruined the franchises’s integrity.
AvP was a terrible, terrible thing that should never have
Oh wait, we’ve already covered that.
I never saw AvP. Should I watch it anyway even though it supposedly sucks?
If you’ve seen any of the Resident Evil films, you know what to expect.
Predators throwing down xenos with fucking WWE stage moves. Literally spinning a mother fucker around by his tail and throwing him in a Hanna Barbara inspired display that would have been redeemable for its comedic value if not completely neutered by being 100% in slow motion.
Ooh. Never seen any of the Resident Evil films either.
I’ve started the game. Not much happens in this first bit, I haven’t even seen any enemies yet, but the game’s soundscapes do a lot to put me on edge. More to follow.
Awesome! I’ll check it out later tonight when I get to my computer.
EDIT: lol, it’s pretty funny having played through where you are at and having watched the movies, I’m definately looking forward to more.
