Abortion

Then maybe the internet isn’t for you.

EDIT: Whoa, I missed a whole page somehow.

Uhhh who is the internet not for?

In response to this:

You should know better than that.

Men: Can debate, have opinions about, and talk about abortion but cannot, ultimately force their will on the pregnant woman.
Pregnant woman: Can debate, have opinions about, and talk about abortion but, ultimately, the decision is hers. She can and should (if the relationship is such) seek the opinion and stance of the man with whom she had sex and take it into consideration when making a decision, but again, the decision is hers.
Other women: Can debate, have opinions about, and talk about abortion but cannot, ultimately, force their will on the pregnant woman.

Now. /thread

A discussion thread is a little bit different than your average thread, that is if you honestly want to sway opinions and/or have a decent argument. I’m not arguing that that kind of behavior is not normal in regular forum culture but if you honestly want to make a compelling debate, acting that way isn’t doing you any favors.

No - they can and do force their will on women - and that is the entire reason for the debate issue.

There is no debate about a woman’s natural right to choice. This is self-evident. Women can choose to abort even in countries where it is illegal. It’s like the situation with laws banning suicide - you can make the law, but it’s a natural right and that decision ultimately lies with the person, and that moral decision is theirs alone. the same can be said of debate or discussion - people have a natural right to do that regardless of topic.

The LEGALITY of abortion is the ultimate issue here - and men can and do have a say in it. But the discussion kinda turned into whether the debate itself is moral or if it’s moral for men to debate or discuss abortion - and that’s really not much of a debate.

Again, well said.

No it didn’t, but neither side has been listening to the other so I guess it doesn’t make a difference.

It’s true that there were a lot of different comments that went in different directions, but insofar as fancypants’ position - that IS the direction the debate went:

I could go on with the copy & paste, but that should do it.

As for her opinion that within a relationship, the man’s opinion is irrelevant and he hasn’t the right to discuss or attempt to persuade the woman in any way unless asked by the woman - this is entirely debatable and relative to the specific relationship.

People can discuss whatever they choose - like continuing with coming up with examples and counter-examples of hypothetical relationship scenarios to support their opinion of some universal moral law that should govern how decisions must be made in every relationship. (My opinion is that there is no universal morality to describe the nature and mechanics of every relationship.)

The real discussion is the morality discussion/debate. It’s a very, very difficult but interesting issue. There are definitely interesting questions generated by this that most people have never considered - it will make people think, instead of react with some stock response, which usually isn’t their own thought anyway.

The abortion issue in general is a difficult issue in that there are so many strong emotional responses from so many different sources - religion, profound personal experiences, political and social resentment, etc. Basing one’s perspective on this stuff may make for strong opinions, but it never supports a reasonable proposition, and generates useless, glurgy comments.

So, I agree that a woman has the right to choose, but just telling her that she has that right doesn’t help at all in making a choice, whereas vigorous public discussion and debate at least weeds out the ridiculous arguments (which may have been the only positions to which she had ever been exposed.)

You quoted a post that’s the exact opposite of what you insisted.

:fffuuu:

What’s next?

  • ovulation? - 5 years of prison (Every ovum counts! Can’t you hold it in?)

Men like him who are so radically against abortion are probably being driven by their uncoscious fear that

  1. their children might be the milkman’s (or postman’s)
  2. that the women they might chose for procreation (whether the woman wants it or not) would decide not to accept the man’s genes.

wait…miscarriages punishable by death?

is this guy full-fucking-blown retarded?

Speaking of retarded, still waiting on a reply to this:

I’d have to say that, yes, he must be retarded.

How I long for a world where the number of abortions outweighs the number of births.

The amount of horrible parents today is pretty perplexing, resulting in lost generation of children without a future.

how come you sound like an 80-year-old douchebag while you’re not even 20 bolteh

really

Maybe I am? :open_mouth:

not even 30*

you look great for an 80-year-old dude

His hard life probably made him wise and perceptive very quickly. An early death in the family, hard work and many good books can do that.
