I first ran half life 2 episode one after having finished half life 2 on the OB engine. I started up episode one today only to find a Q as my crosshair, I have verifyed my cache files, if anyone has had this problem with the new port of episode one and has a solution I would greatly appreciate it.
I don’t know 100% how to fix it, but I do know that the crosshair is a text font. There’s probably a problem that font has become somehow replaced or corrupted. Might want to check into that.
I’ve heard of this problem. Never had it myself, but I’ve read of a fix
Just right-click on episode one and press ‘verify integrity of game cache’
Like I say, never had the problem myself but its worth a bash
If you had read my post you would know that I had said I have already done so, and did so without a successful solution
Look in the text files and see if the normal crosshair is missing.
in the resource folder found in “episodic” I found that the only ttf file was called HL2EP1
In that case, you might want to reinstall the game.
I reinstalled the game, I still have my saved games, so I load a new game on chapter 3, low and behold the enigmatic Q shows up as my crosshair. At that moment I just felt like I wanted to smash my head into my moniter. :’( > 
are there other half life fonts that you installed in your regular font folder? Believe it or not, there was a half life font I installed, and it caused hud issues. Took me a long time to find the problem but of course I was glad to call myself an idiot but be free of my hud issues.
Its a longshot, but perhaps search all .ttf files delete any valve looking ones… then reverify your cache files?
I did what you said, cats.I deleted all .tff files, and I reverifyed my cache files, and yet I am still met with the enigmatic Q.
“Q” is the best letter in the alphabet. Why would you want to get rid of it?
