What’s the general opinion here? Too expensive? Is it just a quick, popular obsession that will blow over in time? I think that while it could just be a flavor of the month (year in reality) thing, even if it blows over the 3D would work great in FPS games. The Panasonic Viera VT25 3D has the best 2D picture of all time as well, I was in Best Buy yesterday and looked at the 3D on it and it was amazing.
The problem is that the glasses are too expensive. Until the glasses get cheaper, or until 3D television without glasses get popular, most people will just buy a 3D television to use it as a 2D television.
Too bad movie theater glasses don’t work, or I’d ninja them every time I went if I had a 3d tv =)
There’s 3D televisions? O_o
Um yeah lol, there have been since January I think.
this 3D fad sucks
I think it depends on how well implemented it is and how quickly they can evolve the technology. The view towards 3D seems to be rather negative, most likely due to the extremely poor quality of 3D with the Red-Blue glasses of a few years ago.
However, the new RealD-3D is actually extremely well implemented, and doesn’t hurt the eyes even after a full length movie. Of course, with the glasses being both expensive and rather inconvenient, it’s not yet very ideal for home use.
RealD-3D technology in video gaming would be amazing in my opinion, it just needs to be implemented.
Nintendo’s 3DS seems like a promising move in the right direction, but since the only people who have seen it in action are those who were at E3 and Nintendo themselves, it’s hard to say at this point.

I haven’t actually seen any movies in 3D, but it just seems like it doesn’t add anything worthwhile.
(^agree)
Comon guys this is capitalism, if 3D televisions are a hot item then you MUST buy one! All those poor companies spending millions to promote 3D television, show some respect!
I hate 3D movies, there’s no way I’m going to watch TV in 3D. Especially with those stupid glasses. I’m interested in Nintendo’s 3DS and how they make it 3D with no glasses. If it works well enough I might change my opinion on 3D
I’m playing my games with Nvidia 3D Vision - and it’s just awesome. On the downside, you loose a lot of brightness from the screen due to the glasses, but playing in a dark room without any other light sources work damn good.
I checked one out the other day they are AMAZING
theres a real feeling of depth to them, they really blow avatar and things out the water
EDIT: Plus does anyone think one day they could make ‘real’ holographic tv?? like a giant glass cube with 3d pixels in it?
that is fucking awesome
Check YT, they’ve already built a few…
3D works well when it’s 3D from the beginning of the production. What does that mean? Many of the movies you see in the theater’s are actually shot in 2D and then digitally “threedimentionalized” in PP . That’s why movies like Clash of the Titans suck deep when watched in 3D… If the whole production is based on making it 3D then we’re talking about something totally different (Avatar).
So if it’s so bad then why do it? Well, think about how much more expensive are the tickets to the 3D version… That’s why many movies result in growing 3d-hater groups, that’s why you should read before going to see a 3D movie and that’s why 3D games look soooooo much cooler with i.e. Nvidia 3D Vision (because it already IS 3D, you just need it to be translated to a format that your display can handle).
BTW, Half-Life 2 is supported… Just imagine…
That’s exactly why my 3D Vision is being polished for BM release!
So what are you guys thinking about this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTXO7KGHtjI? What’s more, the voice is also artificial.
Fucking Asians…
EDIT: But that is amazing lol, I think I saw them do something like that on American Idol a few years back.
I’d like to be able to do that holographic shit sometime in the near future. Replace the animu with one of my 13 ft. tall godmonsters.
