3D Realms goes kthxbai

That’s a real shame.

Duke Nukem 3D was one of the best games (if not the best game) back in the day. In fact, I still really love going back to play it every once and a while. It’s a classic.

I wonder if this means people can continue working on the source version of Duke Nukem 3D that was cancelled ages ago.

It’s disappointing that we never got to experience DNF. I never expected it to come out anytime soon, but I always had a hope that it would come out some day.

Someone really really really really needs to remake Duke3d in CryEngine. Holy shit that would be awesome.

This. all the way.

I… I thought… it was going to last… forever!

Well at least they can finally finish that duke nukem source mod.

Exactly what I was saying. Although, the original dev team for that mod are probably done with each other.

There is more media coming out now that it is canceled than there was when it was in production

He, NOW they show us screenshots!
… You know, I almost cried when I saw the babe trapped in the alein stuff. Memories of Duke Nukem 3D. Good times.

…Well, who knows? Someone (hopefully not as lazy) may pick up the game, finish it, and release it. 3DRealms is gone, but Duke Nukem must live on!

Honestly I don’t think it matters. So what if it comes out? Even if the game is good, everyone is going to be bitter about it because of 3drealms. 11 YEARS!!!

On a side note.
remember these?

Well, out of respect of 3Drealms, I got Duke Nukem 3D off GoG.com.
Is there any way to change the damn controls for this? Who uses the mouse to move forward anymore?

I never used the mouse to move. I always thought that was the most annoying possible setup.

Fortunately this is still being released:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/6K00DCK1l98&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/6K00DCK1l98&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

how the fuck do you embed video?

Never mind. I downloaded the Duke HRP and it has options to change the controls, thank god. Now I get better graphics and better controls!
Ah, good ol’ Duke. You’re just screaming for a sequel.

I beleive you meant to post this:

Also, 3DRealm’s official goodbye:

Worst game trailer ever.

I actually wouldn’t mind playing the 2001 version of DNF. I still to this day have no idea why they didn’t release it.

Because it wasn’t done? Because they switched game engine every year and started again from scratch every time?

By the way, that chair story is pretty intriguing…

Fixed.

Close enough.

Yeah, but what I’m saying is why didn’t they release what they had, and then start another game on the new engine. It would have made more sense and more money.

And the chair story is fake, I found out. The author did work for 3d Realms, but he wasn’t hired until a year or two after that story takes place.

We can’t really determine based on a trailer how finished the game was at that point. In my point they didn’t quite knew how to tackle that project, most likely hitting artistic dead ends and trying out different approaches (switching to another engine? :stuck_out_tongue: ). What we can safely assume is that all those people involved, cared for their game. They were most ambitious about it.
I’m not entirely sure if 3DR intended for the Duke phenomenon to spread like that over the years. A well thought-out marketing move? Or just a company wanting to make the best possible product?
Though I’ve no idea how a good amount of hype could possibly fill 3DRealm’s pockets.

You have a link? I’m a bit disappointed now, I’m much into conspiracy theories :stuck_out_tongue:

Better then flying clip-art.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
