Your Gaming Accomplishments

i’ll admit, i’m not rich and i never have been; nor my parents. When i got a videogame for Christmas or my birthday, it was a big freak’n deal. New games were a rare thing to have in our home, so when those rainy days came, i had to make my games LAST. Before games came integrated trophies, achievements and the like, oldschool gamers like us had to come up with their OWN challenges to keep repetitive play-thrus interesting and fun.

( Well, maybe not always “fun”, but certainly interesting. )

Back in the NES days, i prided myself in taking on tough challenges like playing through Mario3 with no 'shrooms or power-up items but it wasn’t challenging enough. So i fought my way through the original Zelda with no sword. Turns out, everybody’s already done that challenge, so i decided to take it one step further. i wanted to play through the HARDEST Zelda game, The Adventure of Link, using ONLY the items necessary to complete the game. No shield, life or fire spells. (the rest are required to finish the game) No items, except those absolutely necessary, (no cross, no magic key and NO CANDLE). i rejected every level-up screen except magic (required to enter the final dungeon) and obtained NO HEARTS.

So far i’ve finished every Zelda game on minimalist rules (3 hearts, no death, etc.) but The Adventure of Link was by far my biggest accomplishment.

After Zelda2, i went on to complete Faxanadu minimalist (no armor, no sword, no items, etc.) and finished Half-Life with crowbar only (unless absolutely required). i’ve finished Half-Life2 and episodes with crowbar only and grav-gun only rules. i finished Metal Gear Solid 1, 2 and 3 on the hardest difficulty setting without being spotted and using only dart guns. Turns out Grand Theft Auto3 is a LOT harder if you play through the entire game with the same car you start with, don’t kill any innocents and commit as few crimes as possible. GTA4 is even HARDER with the same rules, especially because Roman’s car sometimes disappears between cutscenes!

So what accomplishments have you acquired? Anything worth bragging about or have you a challenge to share with others?

Cave Story hell.

My brother defeated Penance in FFX without using Yojimbo, and maxed out all characters (you have to use destruction spheres to redesign the sphere grid). I was pretty impressed, but alas I lack the patience or skills :stuck_out_tongue:

Used to enjoy the cross-town traffic challenge in GTA: Vice City. An idea from a magazine, you had to get from the entrance to the stadium down to the lighthouse as quick as possible. Good fun, I think I got a respectable time

Once I waited five years for a mod.

5 years only? :stuck_out_tongue:

Get all achievement in game.

Complete all the difficult in BLACK(PS2)

Try to get all Golden Eye cheats unlocked.

Got the Ultima Blade in Kingdom Hearts 1 (didn’t beat Sephiroth though :p)
100% completed Stunt Driver 1. Just beating those games is an accomplishment in and of itself.
100% completed Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. Didn’t get detected and didn’t kill anyone.

Played Half-life 2 on hard. Died a bunch of times. Not much of an accomplishment.

I was bored enough one day to discover all the planets in Mass Effect 2.

^ this, also I was very proud of myself when i found earth but was disappointed i couldn’t land.

this

and this too :stuck_out_tongue:

I beat the Developer’s best time in Duke Nukem 3D’s first level.
I once managed to break Telltale’s little game engine and make a phantom door appear floating over an empty bit of ocean in Tales of Monkey Island part 2.
I once managed to have my player “walk” under water in Grand Theft Auto IV Multiplayer (And I am not fucking kidding you, that happened)

I was on my way to complete Zelda: A Link to the Past with 0 deaths when I was like 8… I had heard Nintendo Power was giving out… t-shirts or something for the best record. Apparently nobody sent them a “0” count yet… But I had to leave the SNES opened while I was eating, and my brother shut it off to play SimCity, and a “save and quit” adds 1 to the “death” count in that game.

I was so pissed.

I found a glitch in the beginning of Majora’s Mask that filled all your item slots with Ocarinas. I was never able to do it again after the first time though :frowning: .

If we include glitches, I once glitched Star Wars: Empires at War to remove unit limits. The entire maps was covered in units. It was awesome.

If we include modding, I once fixed a naming error in JPOG that bugged the hell out of me
I also did a lot of shit to JPOG to make the game a helluva lot easier.

Went through the Whole Halo game franchise on legendary.
Kill 2 Hunters (on Legendary) with nothing but melee.
Guitar hero 3, playing helicopter - bloc party on medium blindfolded.
A few Pokemon games playing Nuzlocke challange.
Playing through the whole of Deadspace with just the Cutter.

Tried mining on Uranus? Good reaction from EDI :stuck_out_tongue:

I once waited 6 years and counting, and i’m waiting patiently
