Yea and naysayers, a word for the devs

Yeah, to say that there’s absolutely no communication from the development team is just not accurate and reflects and inability to do even a sliver of research. As Raminator has said, it seems like, if the information isn’t shoved down your throat daily, it doesn’t exist. And that’s just silly.

I just recently asked a question regarding how scientists and security guards act while they’re around Gordon (healing, ammo-providing) and got an answer almost right away from Raminator (thanks duder!).

The way I see it, if someone isn’t even able to do a modicum of research on their own, then is it really the fault of the development team and their “PR department” if they are actually working on the mod and are communicating on a near daily basis?

The same questions keep popping up, over and over again, and they keep getting answered, over and over again. Is it any wonder, when the EXACT SAME QUESTION IS ASKED, that some people ?

No it’s certainly no wonder why annoyance develop over time when the same questions keep coming. Just leave it be, nothing is gained by making insulting comments. The threads are still coming. Let the moderators take care of those threads.

Things like that just contribute to the illness of this forum. This wasn’t the case 3-4 years ago, I guess it’s pretty much inevitable over such long period of time that this mod has been in development. :frowning:

No one is gonna get banned. I also think that people who pull out the ban word so easily should be banned. Its up to the admin to decide.

Back on topic, people who truly follow the community know that this mod is far from dead. However, I can understand the “lack of update” motion. That is because in its many years of development we’ve gone from honorable mentions in Pc gamer magazine, to weekly blogs to a podcast interview so on and so forth. Now it seems like we only get feedback from 2 of the devs. Rams + James. Is the dev team comprised of only 2 people now? Furthermore, I’d like to throw my balls and jump on the conspiracy express and blame this on one issue. Lack of leadership. In other words, the face of this party or project in this case is AWOL to the community. Has there even been a single post from him since the 2009 update? Its completely understandable if he’s simply busy with life, or sick etc…, but if that’s the case, just step down! Have Rams or Jameskane that the reins. Because apparently they’re the only only ones who actually give a damn about the fans. Apology for the shit post.

As has been said many times before (as well), only James Kane and Raminator visit this forum (regularly). There are other devs but they (usually) don’t visit here.

Interesting. Who, would you say, is the “leader” you’re referring to here? I mean, considering that Raminator has the title “Lead Developer” and all…

Unless something has changed I’m referring to Cman2k.

Jesus christ put down the thesaurus. Nobody reads long awkward posts like this.

On the contrary I do believe his opinions in his forum post are most valid and well executed, but you see, mister Vormaen. No matter how well you word your thoughts, the people of the Black Mesa Source Community Forums will continue with a lack of care for your endeavours because in their opinion you do not really deserve anything but the final product that was promised to be given to you when it is released. And rightfully so seeing as the developers have not ever promised you more than that. They did not promise a demo, they did not promise to release their game like an obese Swedish person and they did most certainly not promise to communicate with a person who is not patient for a modification of a game on the internet.

Your lacking attempts to make yourself seem intelligent are also laughable, as laughable as me writing this post as like this. You might have worded the original post as the fucking Queen of England, but inside it’s still the same old thread about bitching over the lack of updates, there were thousands of these kinds of threads before you and sadly there will bethousands of threads after this one dies.

Sorry, friend, but this mod isn’t being made specifically for you. It’s being made for everyone, and especially for the developers, and will be released whenever they feel it’s been perfected. They have their personal lives to attend before they serve us.

If you’re really itching for updates, check out the Wiki: https://www.wiki.blackmesasource.com It’s constantly being updated. It might not be too exciting, but at least you should realise that the mod certainty isn’t dead.

The ‘Developer quotes’ thread (it’s stickied in The Cafeteria) explains exactly why the devs won’t give any information or updates about the mod. But, I’ll give you the condensed version:
A lot of people bitched no matter what they did. They made a YouTube account, people bitched. They made a Steam group, people bitched. If they gave ANY updates to the public, the fans would get overexcited and expect it to come out soon. When it didn’t, they bitched. So, rather than endure more bitchfests, they decided to stop giving stuff out and just get to work on the mod.

Hey guys! Thought I’d stop my lurking and go about joining… might as well…

I came in somewhere in 2010, due to a post of someone asking whether they should play HL1 in order to play HL2. As always, most people said “They’re not connected, but you should play HL1 anyway because it’s a classic”. Someone said “Check out Black Mesa, it’s a mod that is HL1 properly redone due out this year!” I saw the post was 2009, and so said “Weee! I get to play HL1”.
And then this brick wall where a bunch of people before me were hanging around hit me. I saw the wiki, the videos, the twitter, etc. and thought it was a cool project. I check back less often than most, I bet, but that’s because I like to be pleasantly surprised. I have a lot of patience. I’ve waited a bunch for a bunch of things. This is really no different. And I did start playing HL2 just because I thought “Well, it isn’t related and my free time will soon be occupied by College and then work, so I might as well get this done”. One of my closest friends also did not experience HL1, and had also bought the Orange Box (a long time before me) and when I said I started playing HL2, he asked me “So you’ve given up on Black Mesa?” I told him no. He said he might. This is the kind of thing I think is the most frustrating, coming as a newbie and hitting this wall. In the end, only us with the biggest patience (I say us because I will hopefully be there, maybe not) will get to enjoy it first. What I’m trying to say is, once it is out, as thanks to these amazing, awesome, insert more ass kissing words for the devs here people, we have to get it out there. Make these people’s dreams come true. This is the best thing to keep you going: knowing that as long as you keep on being here and know when it’s coming out, you’ll make it worth it for both you to make it the biggest thing next to HL3, and at the same time, big for the devs.

(Before you criticize me, I am with the majority of people that say, whatever, it is just a mod, and won’t break my heart if it isn’t released or takes a long time. I just had a bit of an angst to get this out. I dunno.)

WALL OF TEXT FTW!

I too love the idea of this mod, but I am losing hope as well, what could be wrong with letting us know how the mod is doing? Many of us love all things Half-Life, so this isn’t just another mod, I am waiting for this mod as if it were HL3, shouldn’t the devs know how much this mod is anticipated, and give us something? I am not a hater, I just would like some news, and there is no new news as far as I can see. Everyone has the right to speak, but why hate on people who just want some news on a wonderful mod that we would love to play. I so agree with you, why do people jump on you just because we say what others may be afraid to say in front of these bullies who are just looking for any excuse to start a fight.:freeman:

We’re not looking for an excuse to start a fight. Frankly, considering the OP and those in support of him, you guys really are coming off wrong. There have been stickied posts- stickied posts that cover exactly why things are the way they are at the moment. And all of the most recent content on the mod’s development is delivered through the Wiki, which you would know about if you read the stickies.

Please, read the aforementioned posts and browse the wiki. I’m sure there’s plenty to whet your appetite until the mod comes out.

Here’s how I respond to that:
Those that “give up” on the mod will either come back to the mod when it’s released or they won’t. It’s not the end of the world if they don’t play it.

It’s just a flippin’ video game, people.

This is for Vormaen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZM5LiEGn7A Please listen to 1:58 to 2:24 and 3:25 to 3: 37

Courtesy of Andrew Ryan. We all want it to come out soon, just remember patience is a virtue and all you can do is wait. Pleading for a release date or updates will not make the game release faster. Understand the developers also have jobs to attend as well, this is done all on their free time.

it’s funny how you say his posts are valid and well executed, then claim it’s the same old thread bitching about the mod’s release :freeman:

because I lied

My comments didn’t come through when I typed them. I guess the forums glitched. Basically I just replied to noonem that he sounded like he was speaking from the point of view of an overseer of half-life. And that isn’t a compliment. “You deserve everlasting Black Mesa.” “You deserve everlasting life.” They aren’t the same idea.

I have no clue what you are talking about but it sounds pretty stupid, I’m going to leave this thread now

Boy guys, it sure is gonna be great when this mod comes out and we’ll all get our “Most Patient Fan” stars for never needing any status updates.

Status Update
They’re working on the mod. It’ll release “when it’s done”…two weeks after the soundtrack releases.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
