Maybe some more non-enemy npc’s, that just fly around, or walk around. More than just the boids?
A couple of non hostile npcs would be cool. Ones that just fly around, ignoring you. Like the boids. But maybe some crawly ones. It’d be more realistic.
Double posting ftw.
Non-hostile wildlife besides random birds would have been interesting to see in HL2 too. Yet VALVe had a good reason why they did not bother with this, though. Too much resources devoted to no gameplay features…
Non-Hostile wildlife shouldn’t be used unless as to add to immersion. In Xen the odd creature floating about the skybox, akin to the alien birds seen in the G-Man scene at the end, fit in quite well IMO.
But when Valve designed HL2, technology was more limited than what it is now. At the moment they can afford to include those sorts of things, and it would maintain the level of detail that is currently held by the rest of the BM media.
Agreed. You would have thought that Xen, being an interdimensional crossroad, would be bursting with creatures. If it’s not too much effort, I’ve always liked the idea of having other creatures and plants in Xen that we haven’t seen before (most likely from the beta), but ones that wouldn’t attack you. In other words, they wouldn’t be enemies, but would behave much like ordinary wildlife when they see something big walking towards them. It would show an incredible eye for detail, although I can understand if it’s too much effort, since you wouldn’t see them as much as other npcs.
They did mention that originally, you would get to see Civil Protection Officers walking around on the bridges and such in Water Hazard, but they removed them because even though they didn’t ‘notice’ the player, playertesters would always shoot them anyway, wasting time and ammo.
that’s the fault of the playtesters.they’re dumb enough to shoot them.
Yea, and as a result Water Hazard felt so empty and alone.
Honestly I hate valves playtesters. They ruined the finale in Episode 2. :meh:
yeah.I hope they actually invites the pro’'s at left 4 dead for the left 4 dead 2 playtesting and such
If that were true, then we would have seen wild coyotes or Raminator driving a monster truck in any of the outdoor BM media pictures. Therefore, keeping the same trends with the Xen levels would actually maintain the same level of detail of the Black Mesa chapters anyway.
i totaly support chumtoads and (xen) roaches
maybe baby xen creatures would be nice to (little baby bullsquid)
How so? I agree with you though, I disliked Episode 2’s final battle, but I’m wondering if it’s for the same reason.
Everything in the media is a work in progress, and doesn’t necessarily represent the final result. My point was geared more towards the level of detail in the levels themselves rather than wildlife (although vultures may well make an appearance). BM’s eye for detail is far more than Valve’s in HL2 and even Episode 2.
