Xen Wildlife

I’ve seen numerous suggestions about Xen Wildlife in several threads, but never an actual topic.

So I though “Eh, why not.”

My main point here is that behavior on Xen should be slightly different then behavior in Black Mesa. This isn’t really a small suggection, so I figured it warrants its own thread.

Monsters in on Xen in HL1 seemed placed their to fight you, much too like it was in BM. This could be remedied by seeing them wandering around beforehand. Also, to make Xen seem more alive, wildlife could be seen wandering around in unacessible areas. For example, packs of Houndeyes on a distant island.

There should also be more Xen wildlife on Xen. Xen seemed oddly berift of Houndeyes, Bullsquids, and Barnacles.

I’m not sure if these suggestions will really get much attention, but it’s certainly worth making a topic about.

I’m pretty sure that was already suggested in the Xen thread. It is a good suggestion. Nothing new though.

Really? I thought the Xen thread was about Xen’s actual design.

I was under the impression that Xen’s actual design was a “Fight Club” sort of thing.

Rule Number One: You do not talk about Xen.
Rule Number Two: You DO NOT talk about Xen.
Rule Number Three: There are no other rules.

I thought that was only for the Got a Question thread.

I was under the impression that was for divulging information about Xen, or trying to get information about Xen. Not suggestions.

  1. Xen Cockroaches
  2. Baby Barnacles
  3. Catseyes: like houndeyes, but cats.

Xen wildlife really, in all seriousness, does not need a suggestion. They are sticking to the original Half Life 1 script but making it pretty with the Orange Box engine. And also, DO NOT TALK ABOUT XEN. Seriously, how many times have the developers told you guys NOT to talk about Xen at all? Leave it alone and let the developers finish their product in peace.

I don’t know. I think it’s a good idea. Design has more to do with outline, while wildlife would be more about the detail.

Hey, there have been plenty of really great ideas about Xen, that I can almost guarantee have been considered by the devs. It’s not totally fruitless. Remember the ‘draw xen’ community project? Who’s to say it ended there?

I lol’d

  1. Bullgiraffes
  2. Squirelsquids
    6.crabheads
    7.Crowroaches
    8.Snakeyes
    9.Steven Spielberg

They said don’t ask about xen, there used to be 2 threads about xen that I can remember. The only reason they aren’t still going is cause we ran out of ideas. Who are you to tell us that we can’t talk about xen? Ever heard of freedom of speech? We can talk about xen all we want to, just as long as we don’t ask questions about it or for media about it. Even if we did that though, we would just be ignored until the devs or mods got tired of our font and dropped the ban hammer on us.

Exactly right. You’re free to make suggestions about it, they may even be considered by the devs, just don’t expect to get any response from the devs.

I was going to demolish this nonsense myself, but I was beaten to it quite handily:

I remember those ideas were already submited, even before the crash.
The dev’s have enought ideas and materials to complete all Xen chapters by now and the community, like Javid said is fresh out of new ones : check the Xen thread which died a month now.

yes please

In the BM youtube channel, in the trailer that wasn´t chosen to be used as the advertising one back in 2008, i had the impression that there are sounds of Xen wildlife in it…
If it ís Xen wildlife sounds, it is impressive.

even half life 1 had sounds of ambient wildlife in xen as far as i recall , you however , won’t see any dogsquids and stuff like in real life…

Put a very small number of roaches throughout Xen, near HEV bodies.

  • All xonian organisms can breathe on Earth, so we can guess roaches can survive on Xen.
  • Wildlife from Xen is dragged to Earth, so there’s dark humour that the converse is true.
  • Roaches from BMRF could have hid away in any equipment box (or suit, or teleport chamber).
  • Xen doesn’t have any little visible terrestrial scavengers, so it’s ripe for an invasive species.
