XEN Texture donation and assistance.

Hi, my name is Deadity, I have been a texture artist for the now deceased Half-Life 2 mod called Dreamscape. I am now doing a mod for Crysis which is very early in development.

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this. I would like to give a texture I have made to the development team. And offer to make more of them, if wanted. I noticed from this article that some XEN textures aren’t done yet. I have made this texture today. And the team can have it if they want (for free obviously). I only wish to be credited somehow for my work. If the team doesn’t want the texture then there is no need to reply to me. Just ignore this post. And if someone else want’s it then contact me or reply to this thread.

The texture includes a Diffuse-, Specular-, Height- and normalmap. I couldn’t get SSbump/Normal Generator to work, that is why the height- and normalmaps are separate.

The textures are made in Photoshop. And as I said I can make more if needed.

Here is a preview of the textures:

Preview of the normalmap on a wall.

Diffuse.

EDIT: I was going for the wall texture in this screenshot. It’s pretty close to the original, even if I do say so myself.

They are pretty cool actually but I doubt devs will contact you but maybe they will. Xen is still work in progress Ithink.

Good day and thank you for joining our forums. Please feel free to read our FAQ as well as our WIKI pages, specifically the section on jobsat the Black Mesa Team.

Thank you and have a safe and productive day.

I have read the FAQ. That is why I posted my suggestion in the forum, precisely as is suggested in the quote below from the FAQ.

Did I do something wrong? Or are you hinting that I should make a donation to the team?

When I read this in my head with the voice from the tram on Inbound.

Suggestions are for “ideas” not for submitting work. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not looking to join your team. I am merely offering some textures. If you could kindly redirect me to the work submission page, I will gladly take my business there. If no such page exists, I really don’t see the harm of posting my work here. That is after all why I included the following disclaimer:

Anyway, here is another texture if anybody is interested. Again, no need to reply if the textures do not arouse any interest. You don’t even have to post a snarky passive aggressive remark if you don’t want to.

This texture consists of diffuse-, height-, specular-, and normalmap.

the texture on a sphere.

And the diffuse.

Yeah, you should probably PM or e-mail one of the (lead) devs, like Ram, James, or cman2k.

Edit: :ninja:

All the same, there’s more of a chance for your textures to be used if you e-mail someone.

FYI the Xen screens released by Atomic PC aren’t “missing” any textures, according to the BM Dev Team they intentionally blacked out Xen because they want it to be a surprise.

Yeah fine. I just didn’t want to be an obtrusive dick and spam them. They probably get tons of mail.

Aah, that’s cool. If it’s a surprise I think they will add parallax or tessellation. That would be awesome.

Anyway, if anyone wants these textures for another project then PM me.

I’m surprised you haven’t been approached in a warmer manner. That first texture is awesome! (I’m not too hot about the second one though :stuck_out_tongue: )

I really like the first texture too! Nicely done!

I wasn’t trying to be rude or anything. Good point though.
Textures look pretty good btw

Nice textures, however I think the team will likely want textures from someone they can get consistent work from (in the case of needing to update / change things as development continues) on a regular basis, i.e. someone willing to be a part of the team. And I doubt they’d hire on someone so late in the development process.
Anyway, your textures are great; however, in my speculative opinion I would surmise that the team won’t be taking you up on the offer.
Cheers, mate. And keep up the nice work!

i take that back, since the build review was unplanned it is likely that xen is in fact missing materials

Haha we just posted about the same thing at nearly the same time on two separate threads.

In the game or not these are some great textures.

I actually like my second texture more. I think you need to see it in game to get the full effect of it. I think it captures the original intent of how XEN was supposed to look by Valve. It looks like looking at fungus through a microscope, yet it’s big enough to touch. And it looks completely organic and alive. I noticed the development team used Zbrush to make textures for XEN. The problem of sculpting textures in Zbrush in my humble opinion is that it looks sculpted and not very organic. I try to use a more pixel based approach.
