Xen Soundtrack?

I am a big fan of the Black Mesa soundtrack, I think Joel Nielsen really nailed it, keeping it compatible with, but different from, Half-life 2, and capturing the atmosphere of this game perfectly. I have two questions about the final release: will there be additional soundtrack music composed for the Xen chapters, and will that music be added to the release availible on iTunes and for download on this website? Does anybody know? I understand that the devs probably can’t say anything, as usual.

one thing is probably certain that the industrial tones of Black Mesa will disapear on xen… So I imagine the music for xen will be quite different to suit the environment…

Don’t quote me but It would make sense…

Ronster, no offense but what’s with the constant dots?

The Dotard asks about Dots?
I simply don’t understand…

you know what’s at the end of those dots…

That is when i m thinking or pausing or unsure.

Sorry bad habit. I don’t do it when i write emails though

100% agreed. It supports the action on screen perfectly and can be listened to outside playing the game as well. I bought it, great high-res flacs.

OT: Can’t wait what he will come up with for the Xen levels. ( I sure hope he IS going to write some more music for this???)

I emailed Joel Nielsen and he confirmed that he is working on the soundtrack for the Xen levels.

At least some news.

I loved xen aesthetically and the soundtrack for it too, how different it felt atmosphere-wise from the rest of the game.

The actual levels themselves are a different story of course. I hope the new music manages to capture that weird tribal alien feeling that songs like the gonarch’s lair had.

That is really awesomely exciting news! Of course, I didn’t have any doubts that there would be some new songs for Xen, but having it confirmed is vindicating.

I look forward to seeing what he cooks up.

He was allowed to confirm he was working on something even though there was an NDA? I hope he doesn’t get in trouble. :frowning:

I feel like either their NDA doesn’t cover as much as it seems, or that it’s just be a new excuse for not saying anything (not that they need one, anyway). But then I can’t be sure, and it doesn’t matter.

Regardless, didn’t he say he was working on Xen tracks in the weeks before the game’s release? This feels like it’s not news, for some reason.

Apparently, there isn’t much of an NDA from Valve. The NDA is apparently self-imposed.

Wrong. Our NDA is very real but it concerns release plans, not game content.

Thank you for the clarification; it really clears things up.

Yeah, I thought I understood it well, too, but it seems to be all over the place.
For instance, your-name-here has previously said that the NDA prohibits them from telling whether they can port to Mac/Linux. However he’s recently said that they probably won’t be because they’re busy. Almost seems like the NDA isn’t well defined. It’s why I was playing psycho conspiracy theorist a few posts back. I understand not being able to tell exact terms of their NDA, but it doesn’t help to go back and forth.

Also just wanna clarify that I’m not accusing the devs of anything, so I hope there’s no ill feelings sensed.

What doesn’t help is people repeatedly asking a question they know they can’t possibly get a straight answer to. It frustrates you and it frustrates the devs who I’m sure would want to be as open as possible.

Also, I think that as the original question has been answered as far as it can currently, I’m closing the thread.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
