It doesn’t destroy them, it puts them into an infinite restart loop. Still makes the console useless but it doesn’t do any harm to it really. I don’t know what people expected when putting a code into the field with the word reboot in it.
Modern natural selection
Why would the devs leave a irreversible “action” like that?
they were probably planning for that action to be triggered by saying bad words to the console but they were having too many false positives from profanity in their games
freezone.reboot might sound like you’re telling it to release a restriction on something and then reboot…nevertheless, if it sounds too good to be true, and it’s just an image being passed around on the internet with no sources or proof, common sense ought to at least tell you a few seconds of double-checking on google would be a good idea. On the other hand, if more people could think that critically when operating their computers, I’d probably be out of a job.
QA, probably. It’s likely to test the hardware or firmware or something. Make the console reboot itself for hours or days on end to test for hardware design faults, problems with the OS, and get an idea of the lifespan of the system. Consoles, like Apple products, are expected to “just work”, and keep “just working” throughout their lifespan. And Microsoft probably learned something from the failure rates of last gen’s consoles. I bet there’s some other commands designed to stress test the hardware.
I’m thinking there is an easy way to revert the changes but it can only be done at Microsoft (for now).
I’m sure. Probably just have to pop the hard drive out and connect it to a PC to modify whatever file stores the command.
Maybe the next hardware revision will have a hard reset button on the back or something.
UPDATE: Man who paid $750 / £450 for photo of Xbox One gets free system
Honestly, that whole story just screams “I’M A MARKETING HOAX!!!”
Why would he go to the press in the first place? Surely, he’d contact eBay first and they would not interfere with his privacy by calling the media. Also, why would he get a completely new and free system? eBay told him they’d give him his money back, so giving him a free system is stupidity at its finest, and it says below he did get his money back!
Nevermind, error post
Rich twats like to play video games too.
Yes, this consoles hardware that is less powerful then PS4, that is covered in 24-carat gold.
…
To be honest If this was PS4, I’m going for it If I come form the wealthy family.
I bet it doesn’t even come with a gold-plated kinect so you’d have to buy that separately.
inorite?
That would be funny if it doesn’t.
I’d rather keep that money and spend $20k on a “supercomputer” with the latest hardware.
