The best shooter ever made so far.
When I played it a day ago in a store, I was delighted.
They delivered on all fronts. Graphics, Campaign, Multiplayer, Sound, Atmosphere, beatiful setting.
The overall experience was fantastic. Definite improvement from the third game.
Especially graphics - fascinating what developers can squeeze out of 5 year old hardware. Same thing Konami did first with MGS2, than with MGS3. If you think about it, this is the beauty of console game development - squeezing every bit out of hardware.
I now see where “the most complete Halo” comes from.
The only problem is it’s exclusivity. I have to go to my friends house to play it.
Halo Reach is VERY far from a great game. As I have said above, it is incredibly lacking in many ways. And don’t try to pretend you’re not an internet toughguy, everyone here knows it except, apparently, you.
I didn’t start Halo Reach bashing simply because everyone else was doing it, I did it because I sincerely dislike the game. I didn’t even read a single post before bashing, so clearly I wasn’t jumping on a bandwagon; I didn’t even know the bandwagon existed. Before it had come out, I DEFENDED it when everyone else was bashing it, mainly because I enjoyed the beta. But now that it has been released, I discovered the only good stuff about it was what was in the beta.
Halo Reach is like the original, and the things that are different are worse than the original. The graphics aren’t that much better than Halo 3, the environments are just bigger. For example; when flying the helicopter in at the beginning the trees look like blurry low poly shit until you get close. I’m beginning to think you don’t even believe the things you say and just make them up in an attempt to screw with people.
Throughout your posts you always take the minority just to be an asshole about it, or, if there is no minority view, you make up your own ridiculous one in a disgusting attempt to piss people off.
A perfect example;
You take models and you place them in a pre-made map: gmod with less functions
tl;dr : Hurr durr I’m a massive whiney underage faggot who cannot handle the truth
If you have a problem with my post or my “attitude”, you can always fuck off.
EDIT: Oh, and just to clarify. I did enjoy my first stint in Reach (and it was quite a bit of a stint). And I’m looking forward to do a full walkthrough.
If it was not a great game, it wouldn’t get a 90 metacritic from 60 and counting reviews. Don’t even try to say “biased” in your rebuttal.
Garth, you’re getting trolled fucking HARD. (kinda, ODB’s posts are a mix of jokey BS and honesty at this point)
But a lot of things have changed technically in terms of Reach’s graphics. The max polycount is very apparently way higher and everything is a lot more detailed. There’s some ambient occlusion, and the screen space motion blur is better than Halo 3’s (But I think they reused ODST’s there, but toned it down to help the queases out there) All in all, it looks more DIFFERENT than it does better. I don’t really care, as everything is more efficient to make way for maps that are many times larger. Most differences are nothing a layman would see, though.
Also, at the forge debate, Garth is full of shit. Sure, it’s like gmod, but that doesn’t mean it’s NOT a level editor. I mean, do you edit levels? Yeah. Do you have the tools to make maps that can vary completely in terms of gameplay? Yeah. So… where’s the problem? Also, Reach’s campaign is fan service. For someone whose kept tabs on the trilogy and the extended universe. Plus, it mixes up the gameplay more than any other of the Halo games do, really.
Apart from the fact that I really enjoyed Reach. If he cannot handle the fact that he is full of shit, he’s full on trolling himself.
What a sore looser.
EDIT:
Guys’ who’ve got a whole picture in this thread counter: 1
EDIT2: The fact that campaign is a fanservice doesn’t take away from it’s great execution.
You may want to see Halo3/Reach comparison at gametrailers.
https://www.gametrailers.com/video/halo-3-halo-reach/704639
Striking. And that’s the same old system.
They’ve put a hell of a lot of hidden potential into those guys, both Sony and Microsoft.
If I had to draw a parralel between PC and Console graphics, I’d compare american musclecars, with their massive engines and enormous torque, and european cars like BMW M3 with less volume, but same performance. Pretty much same performance, but BMW gets away with far less petrol. There’s simply much more refinement going on the BMW’s side than in case of Mustangs.
Console hardware restriction makes devs more and more to push the outside of the envelope. And this example is where it all shines.
If I had a boat
I’d go out on the ocean
And if I had a Halo
I’d ride him on my boat
And we could all together
throw Halo out into the ocean
Me upon my pony on my boat
Oh and forgot to mention that Reach was absolutely stable despite of a hell of a lot of shit going on.
And AI has improved, actually. There are all these tiny things in NPC behaviour that stand out.
So yeah, as in whole package, definite improvement from Halo 3. And I ain’t done with it yet.
Halo: Reach to the heavens and thank God for such an awesome game.
Never know who’s trolling and who’s serious, huh?
Perhaps.
As I said; Halo Reach’s graphics are pretty similar to Halo 3’s graphics, just with more open environments.
What’s wrong with Forge made maps? They are really visually unappealing; reused assets with generic texturing and shapes. They don’t have nearly the complexity as other maps. They don’t have half the thought put into them as other maps such as powerhouse. they are limited to generic corridors and paths which in turn limits their gameplay. I could probably find more to say. Perhaps it is technically a level editor, but it it’s a very primitive one designed to trick people with too much spare time on their hands into thinking they’re creative.
And you’re right, ODB is just trolling, it’s time I started using the ignore list.
Looking at the Halo Reach - First Hour playthrough on GameTrailers, I’m having my doubts on AI improvement. @ 32:20 ish, I’m seeing Noble Five shooting at a staircase instead of at enemies. Quite a waste of minigun ammo, yes?
Also, @ 50:42, the AI driver gets stuck on a rock.
57:53, AI partner seems to not mind two Elites drilling holes in her back.
It’s more like a bug then a scripting problem.
You can’t possibly win the battle against various bugs.
They did improve on AI however and added some new feats for situational behaviour. In open space battles, you can actually rely on your guys to give a suppression fire while you are flanking the enemy. And they won’t do outright stupid things despite that you can’t actually control them like in brothers in arms.
P.S. You can see right there how engaging the campaign is from the start. I don’t know what the hell are people bitching about. You have to be blind not to see the improvements graphics-wise as well.
Also, fog :jizz:
EDIT: About that stairwell-shooting. It’s just the fucking spray of the minigun. I’ve yet to see a game that had not the problem. Also, when you have a minigun, you just keep shredding away. Last thing you think about is ammo. And actually, he would be just exposing himself getting up the stairwell with his relatively slow pace. He’s fire support guy, remember? He’s always behind. And his behavior throughout the scene is more then adequate actually. He makes the right decisions, doesn’t expose himself to enemy fire too much and just keeps shooting the bastards in his sight. A few hiccups, especially after he gets a grenade up his ass, but more than ok overall…
Some people could make a lot better stuff on Forge then some Hammer level editors.
The lack of good tools means you need MORE creativity to do well than a full fledged level editor.
Honestly garthbartin, its obvious you have never even played the game for even 5 minutes so get out. You cause more harm then good in trying to show people that the series isn’t as great as its made out to be by your blind nerd rage.
Edit: Lol, my 666th post was defending Halo.
He disses only reach but it does not help his situation.
Watched some reach gameplay today, and i must say it actually looks pretty interesting, made me want to play halo 1 again. My real gripe with halo was that the quality of the campaigns seemed to diminish after CE so it made me eventually “hate it” like every other pc gamer, but It is a pretty good game, just the ones after the first one are overrated.
I did have some very fun times on custom maps in Custom Edition multiplayer with my friends.
The only campaign I had problems with is halo 3. But it’s problems came from it’s strong points so you can’t have all at the same time I guess.
Well I remember their bloom lighting was ridiculously blown out. I don’t usually mind a blown out look (like say, the film Minority Report), but it was simply too much and got in the way of the gameplay.
They also didn’t include the Arbiter segments, which is why I prefer Halo 2 for it’s greater gameplay variety. Variety is the spice of a good game, and Halo 3 was more repetitive than Borderlands.
