Hey guys, just a quick question. Is Windows XP virtual machine (downloadable from here: https://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx) compatible with Home Premium versions of Windows 7?
I know it comes with Ultimate but I would like to know if it would work before I dwonload it.
Hope you can help!
Nope. Pro and Ultimate only.
^dat. ALSO you need a compatible processor that supports a specific type of virtualization.
not more
^^THIS. Which is fucking shit because I don’t have the right kind of CPU.
You don’t need the right cpu no more. Any cpu will just work fine, more or less.
Just dualboot 7 and XP, virtualization sucks!
Yes indeed, good sir.
However, HDD space is in short supply.
Thanks for the help guys, shouldn’t have cheaped out and bought Home Premium!
If your gaming all you need is Windows 7 Home Premium.
Problem is, a few of my games don’t work on 64 bit Windows 7 Ah well
Btw when installing an OS and it asks to format a drive does it format the whole drive (deleting ALL files) or just the OS?
get a separate hard drive, remove master drive when installing, then just choose from bios boot menu.
OR
- wipe HDD
- divide drive in 2 partitions
- install XP on partition 2
- reinstall 7
OR
- divide drive into 3 (7 on primary)
- install XP on partition 2
- install ubuntu on partition 3 (all you need is GRUB bootloader)
Yeah… Problem is I created a partition but when I tried to install XP on my second partition but it didn’t register the partition and started to format my C drive. Now Im frantically trying to restore Windows 7 with my disc but no luck yet!
Speaking of hard drives and windows 7, (this doesn’t merit its own thread)
I booted up my pc this morning and for some odd reason, I cannot for the life of me gain access to my “D,:” drive. It says,
D:\ is not accessible
the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable
Whats odd is that last night I was using that drive no problem what so ever and no errors. The drive is a sea gate SATA 200GB 7,200RPM. Has anyone ever had this happen to them?
I sure hope you’re joking! D: if your whole drive gets wiped you need to get “GetDataBack for NTFS”
You need to pay attention to the text on the screen when you boot from the windows XP cd, because those stupid blue menus haven’t been updated since windows 3.0 but they are very important. You can even change the size of a partition or install windows in C:\WINSUCKS\ or something… But they don’t exist in Vista or Windows 7.
