Windows 7 Professional or Home?

So I’m looking to buy windows 7 and am wondering if it’s worth the extra money to buy professional or home. Is there a huge difference between the two products?

Also, so far the best deal I’ve found is 149 for professional from tigerdirect.com, does anybody know where I could get a better deal?

Any help appreciated.

I don’t know why you would bother upgrading, you should probably wait until more support is released and it is more stable, otherwise you will get a lot of crashes.

Ive had it since release with no problems.
I keep my pc on for days at a time with development tools running and I can swap between games with no issues unlike the issues I had with vista.

Why would you pay for it? Lol.

If you’re a student, you can get it for £30. I plumped for the home edition, purely because I had vista home edition, meaning I could do an in-place install. I have a laptop crucial to my uni work, and nowhere to back anything up, so a clean install seemed like a bit too much hassle

But Taxi, thats only in the UK. If you’re in the US, you can get it free if you’re a student, or so I’ve heard.

Also, Shacktal, enough support, it helps that it’s incredibly stable and problem free already.
.

Well, I’m surprised; most of Microsoft’s OS’s are buggy and unstable, are you telling me they have made a decent operating system?? :frowning:

If so, I might have to check it out!..

I’m currently using pirated xp and it is shit. It’s the whole reason I’m getting 7.

Anyway, seeing as nobody seems to feel strongly either way I’ll go for the home edition.

Wow,

A. Hide your fanboy attitude much? What is it, Linux, Macs…c’mon.
B. You must have been living in a cave if you haven’t heard the positive reception of W7
.

I haven’t read any of the reviews on windows 7 yet, I just have too much experience of windows becoming very unstable and slow after 6 months.

How can you not have heard about W7 yet?

Also, no offence mate, but that’s because you don’t take good care of your PC I suspect.
.

I have heard about windows 7, but I haven’t read anything more than that.

Generally, I do maintain my PC quite well, it is just extremely tiresome always having to clean the registry and going into msconfig.exe to stop all of the startup programs.

I know that no OS is flawless, there are just others that focus less on the GUI (an unnecessary luxury IMO) and more on the speed and usability.

But of course, we are all entitled to our own opinions

Well, fwiw, the GUI in 7 is better and more intuitive than vista or any other M$ OS, and less demanding than it was in Vista as a bonus.

Also, just use Ccleaner, for all your registry cleaning and startup needs. And cleaning temp files too, and uninstalling…
.

Well, I will give windows 7 a try, but I’ve just had alot of bad experiences with Microsoft OS’s. But, maybe they’re going to change and Windows 7 is the beginning.

Thanks,

:freeman:

Windows 7 Professional is quite alright, I got it through MSDNAA. You should look into that if you’re a student.

Garth, theres little reason to buy professional.
Unless you really want one of those features, Home should be great.

Heres a comprehensive chart.

If Vista gave you the shits, 7 may be the OS you’re looking for.

Thanks.

Turns out I can’t get it yet because I’m a few bucks short and my dad won’t give me my allowance until I fix my bike, and I’m on vacation so I have to wait until I get back.

The only real advantage of Pro is that you get the Win XP compatibility mode. Home doesn’t come with that.
