Windows 7 Appreciation thread

I’ve only been using it for a couple of hours and its easily my favourite Desktop based OS. (nothing will ever beat DOS)

I can easily see the performance improvements on Vista and even some on XP imo, running it on a top notch PC is really what I think it was designed for, everything for me is loading so much fast, Firefox is dead set instant, Steam now starts at least 5x faster. The improvements made on the Network and Sharing center are excellent, I hated that in Vista, but this one I find is much better and faster.

The looks is also quite nice, the new task bar I like as well the new Shutdown button that actually shuts down the PC, not puts it to sleep.

And plus it was just a breeze to install, and 2x as fast as the Vista install.

[COLOR=‘DarkRed’]My only problem with it is that Ntune now make it bluescreen when I try and use it, but that’s Nvidia’s fault, they make drivers for the OS but nothing to tweak you card (rivatuner also doesnt work).

Cancel that, some reason Rivatuner want to work now so its problem free.

Bscly, discuss what you like about 7 here.

EDIT: Whoops I thought I put this in the Tech section, can a mod plz move this.

Well, technically, it comes under technology, but that’s up to a mod to decide.

Having a decidedly mediocre laptop that came with Vista on it, I installed W7 and instantly saw the performance boost, in-game, and on the desktop too. Best features imho is the improved networking(it connects instantaneously), the improved plug and play(I could connect a logitec MXrevolution, and use it instantly, without logitech drivers), and the context sensitive boxes they’ve put onto the start menu.

In your recently used items on the start menu, and on the taskbar buttons, clicking or hovering over the little arrow will show recent internet pages, or mp3’s played, or image files opened, etc. On microsoft programs, such as msn, it will show status options and other context sensitive links. And the pinning and unpinning of items has been streamlined. Even the window snapping to half/full screen, I find very useful.

It’s cleverer, and more intuitive. What Vista should have been
.

It’s also touchscreen. :retard:

I like W7 alot more than Vista and I use it since the Beta came out.
It’s a great OS imo.
I had no problems, except with GTA4. does someone know what error WS10 is?
couldn’t find something useful about it.

Its a soild OS. Microsofts best yet tbh.

It runs beautifully, and it looks good too. Pretty much everything works with it too.

Works great on my netbook. Bloody impressive.

Pfff, Unix is better as a command line OS. :stuck_out_tongue:

This.

A mod has declared this thread: Alive!

The new WMP is pretty awesome as well.

Being one of a few to ike WMP the new one is very slick, nice big window for the visulisations.

Naw, I hate the new WMP. They got rid of the toolbar for it and I prefer the tabbed interface of WMP11.

I use WMP to play video files (I don’t bother with associating .avi to VLCPlayer, it’s not an issue for me), and I don’t have problems with it. I never liked it as a library manager though.

But, the important question is, which one?

agreed.

All i use is the now playing list, which amazes me that itunes still doesnt have one.

On the previous media player, when it was pinned to the start menu, if you right click it, you could select “play all music shuffled” without it even running. Which was a nice feature, on the later versions of it in the beta, its just “Play all Music”. Don’t know why they changed it,

Its a real nice feature though.

That is pretty cool… And I didn’t know about it. Jawesome.

Yeah its pretty cool

It runs a little better than Vista on my machine, which is a pretty big complement considering Vista runs like a dream on my machine.

I like Linux better, but I’m too lazy to learn how to configure it for my hardware so there are only a few distros that work well for me out of the box and strangely enough it’s the ones that give me the most trouble that I actually like the most. :frowning:

You’re doing it right!
