Excuse the off-topic-ness, but Catz, you get to play the game while it’s being developed, no?
I don’t believe so.
Oh that’s lame. I think the voice actors should be allowed, but then again I also think you moderators should be allowed too… maybe I’m just too lax?
No I dont have access and to be honest, this is very reasonable to not have EVERYone on the team access to playing the game. Leaks happen when everyone and their sister is able to get to places they have no reason getting to.
And besides, I dont want to play it ahead of time. I want to be amazed right along with everyone else. Play testing would ruin it for me. So even if they were to ask, I would respectfully decline.
The music however… if someone were to ask if I want the final music product, THAT my good friends would be a temptation I couldn’t resist. Alas, I do not have the final music though.
Yeah, I agree with you. If they were to ask me if I’d be apart of some sort of beta testing phase, I would also decline. It would be such a temptation, but ultimately I want my first experience with it to be perfect.
HL is unreplaceble. Sure I might be playing Black Mesa more but that doesn’t mean it replaces it. HL will always have a special place in our heart(at least in mine )and nothing,NOTHING,can replace it.
NOTHING!
Yes, it will and the reason is simple:
Because Black Mesa perfects HL1 by combining it with my favourite engine.
And also the love for detail in all levels makes it more fun to play, than to rush through a very puristic environment, where most of the furniture are brush-based objects.
I wonder if the dev’s ever really stop and think about what this means.
They are the only successful group to re-create the very best pc game of all time.
This is just as monumental as the game’s release itself.
Surely the time for stopping and contemplating their achievement is after they’ve, you know, achieved it. I’m all for inflating the devs’ egos and telling them what fantastic work they’re doing, but let’s leave the retrospectives about how the release of the greatest mod ever changed the world until after it’s, you know, released.
Oh, sorry, I meant like, in a sense that they have a lot of pressure on them to do good.
Yes, Black Mesa will replace Half Life 1 for me. Black Mesa will have more square footage because of the Orange Box Engine. I will make sure to explore every nook and cranny. It will be like Oblivion with a crowbar and guns for me. I will kill aliens and humans but I will also explore the facility. I might keep Half Life 1 just for the HL1 mods like Decay and Someplace Else, maybe.
No, Black Mesa won’t replace hl1 for me. Simply because half-life 1 is a classic. Even when BM will be out, I’ll be getting back to hl1 from time to time as usual.
I don’t have hl1 now, so BM will replace it, but i won’t forget Half-Life 1.
Played the original close to a dozen times, but lost my copy about 8 months ago.
Whether I buy another will depend on if the mod’s as good as I’m hoping.
i guess BM will replace HL for me, it’s a good game and all, but let’s face it. it’s 10 years old and it shows.
@Catzeyes93: won’t it be a bit weird hearing your own voice ingame?
@jomiyo: that’s why you should always register the game with steam
I’ll tell you that it would be unbelievably weird to hear my own voice in game.
specifically since I didn’t do any voice acting.
I cant tell ya the joy I felt when I heard myself during the trailer. It was my first taste of how the end product should feel and I am elated. I also heard a couple of clips for other portions of the game and am eager to see how it feels in game. They tweaked it so that my voice is a bit lower in pitch and with more metal to it, so it sounds different from the tram voice. Again, I am stoked to see how it all works in game.
I imagine it will be extremely cool to know that you’re going down in a huge part of Half-Life history.
Cool is the word. Except I will need to hold myself back the next time there is an article in a magazine at the local grocery store. Otherwise I will be tempted to tell the check-out girl that I am “part of the uber kewl hl2 mod remake of Half Life… uyup I am the tram system person and I am so excited, see that is it right there (holds up the page) that is what I am in omg I am so excited!!”
To which the check-out girl replies, “wtf is hl2?”
Not to be taken offensively, it’s just that unfortunately not that many people know about the series.
Still, it’s uber awesome.
