Will Black Mesa replace Half Life 1 for you?

No, but definitely will replace Half-life 2.

It will replace half life 1 for me, definetly

Personally, I think that exist a 99% of probabilityes to still playing Half-life, much more than Black Mesa source. To me, depend of found or not found plot mistakes during my future Black Mesa experience… In any case, I am sure that Black Mesa will be amaizing. In addition, depend a lot about the atmosphere that BMS could transmit me. And more important, if that atmosphere will be feeling by me all the times than I will play it in the future.

Get off my internetz and don’t come back until you have played through every glorious second of Half Life 1.:freeman:

For me, I don’t think it’ll necessarily replace HL1. HL1 is still the original and I’ll play it for nostalgia’s sake. BM will be my bitch, though.

I was raised to the Half-Life saga.
Half-Life 1 had a much greater sense of urgency and panic to it then the ones that followed.
To see such an amazing atmosphere and gameplay redone to a modern-day graphics game with re-worked maps will easily replace Half-Life 1, the game.

But Half-Life 1 as a story is going to be hard to duplicate and update, especially if the story will be told differently this time around.

Still, I have hope in the faithful modders who dedicated the past seven years to re-create a gaming experience that defined a generation of gaming.

So good luck. I hope to play it someday.

lolwut

I dunno. That forest Strider battle at the end of Episode 2 was pretty intense.

Yeah, but they had to pour it on thick.

I haven’t played it yet so I can’t tell you.

Black Mesa will definitely replace it, for me anyways. BM is what Half Life: Source should have been. Lazy Valve forcing fans to take it upon themselves :meh:

HL:S was just a proof-of-concept to show how relatively easy it is to port GoldSrc content to Source.

And BM will replace it for me, unless I can resolve driver issues or get new hardware. -_-

Black Mesa will completly replace Half Life for me. I might even consider deleting all Half Life GoldSource games off my computer.

Not entirely. It’s main purpose was for Valve to experience first hand the process of porting GoldSrc to Source. It can’t be entirely hard. You extract/decompile the maps, put said maps into Hammer, add all scripts, enemies, etc. Export. That’s probably not exactly how it goes but that’s pretty much the gist of it.

You have played HL Source??
I’m a newb on here, but I was under the impression it hasnt been released yet? Therefore, not finished…

At any rate, I recently learned of HL Source & Im totally stoked!

Black Mesa will replace Half-Life 1 for me, though I’ll still play original, as I have been playing it for years now.

HL Source is the Source conversion made by Valve which was just a port, nothing was changed besides better lighting/water and ragdolls. Black Mesa is a total remake to make HL up to par with HL2 and the episodes.

I doubt you can “replace” hl1. Just to much of a golden item to replace, but I will play the living mother Fkg s**t out of BLACK MESA SOURCE!!!
… I must be to excited.

With what I have seen from Black Mesa’s media so far, there’s a good chance of that; especially since the architecture of the level design will make more sense and look nicer.

For me OP’s question is similar to asking, “So the automobile has been invented. Will traveling by automobile replace traveling by horse and carriage?”

Yes. Yes it will.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
