Will Black Mesa replace Half Life 1 for you?

I can still play through HL1 thse days and not be fazed one bit by the outdatedeness of it all.

Same.

Since being on these forums I have really turned around from the idea of a 1:1 remake though. I remember when I heard they were radically changing stuff I was so disappointed but after understanding better what they were doing I feel like any 1:1 remake for any game, not just HL, would just be wasted effort unless the game is flawless in every way except graphics and combat

There’s something about the original that I just love - perhaps it’s the speed (compared to most modern FPS’s) or the fact that I can carry an unrealistic amount of guns (again, unlike… you know). Either way, HL1 fucking owns.

That said, BM may usurp it in my games list.

I beg to differ. The graphics are outdated, but they still look great stylistically. The sounds may be a low bitrate but the overall sound design is better than most games that come out now. The gameplay hasn’t aged a day. The shooting/ platforming/ puzzle mix that was a standard in 98 kinda died quickly right after 98. Half’s life gameplay is frozen in amber, man.

I’m probably in the very small minority here, but I like first person platforming.

I do too. I fucking love it.

I never understood why people have so much trouble gauging distances when in first person. FP platforming, liquid hazards, and traps are things I severely miss from games. It’s especially hard to find fps games with traps, let alone good ones. Which is probably why even though it’s easy, the garbage compactor scene after apprehension I really liked, or the satchel in the tunnel scene. Which I’m very curious to see in BM btw.

I guess it’s because there are fewer amounts of shooters that actually let you look down at a 90degree angle.

Last first person platforming experience I had (chronological order of release) was in Halo: Reach’s custom obstacle courses.

funny point isn’t, there are no obstacle in the later fps’s when you think about it. then again no other game has a long jump module.

Meh, I didn’t build a custom pc to play outdated eye candy. And hell yes BM will replace anything pre-HL2 for me, almost pre-EP1. Almost

Ooooooh, look at the dude with the state of the art custom PC that can run source games.

Guy, if that’s gonna be your argument against old games, than namedrop Metro or something at least.

I think it pretty much will. I only finished Half Life because I forced myself to. It may have been revolutionary for its time but I am too young to have perceived that. Black Mesa will give me the same feeling that seniors got when they first played Half Life, I think.

I do miss the long jump module

I like it too, actually. The only section in Half-Life where it bugs me would probably be the first level of Interloper, I couldn’t stand that section :fffuuu:

As for BM… It’ll probably replace Half-Life: Source for me, but even so, the original probably won’t be going anywhere.

First time I played HL I didn’t do the whole hazard course so I missed the long jump section.

Spent about a half hour trying to jump normally in xen :fffuuu:

i tryd that too in mortal kombat…

Heh. You should try that in Eternal Champions: Challenge from the Dark Side…

One of the big reasons I want this mod is because when I play half-life 1 when I go through the hallway after the cafeteria in Office Complex it crashes! :rage:

For me it will, cause I never played Half-Life runs for cover!
