Will Black Mesa replace Half Life 1 for you?

Nope never. The nostalgic feeling of playing HL1 can’t simply be replaced, but still I’m looking forward to BM.

Yes, will Black Mesa replace Half Life 1 for me.

BM?.. Replace HL1 for me?.. OW HELL YEA! Don’t care if it differs much from hl. Would be only nicer if hl exp won’t totally spoil the game.

Yes.

Never completed the original game. Joined the party late. HL2 was pretty much my introduction.

So I am really looking forward to playing this.

I have a theory.

Development has become almost secretive. Almost as much as Episode 3. Or is it HL3 now? Maybe Valve has contacted the devs to make the mod using a new engine? So it can be released with a new HL game? Like a new Orange Box? Huh? Maybe? Huh?

Probably, yes - seeing as how I already beat HL and I never revisit it really anymore. It’s a great game, don’t get me wrong, just the nostalgia that draws me back to a game really lies elsewhere, e.g. Unreal, Quake 1, Duke3D, etc. I might revisit HL1 sometimes, but for some reason i feel Half-Life is the perfect game for a re-imagining like BM, where as other games like Unreal, or Quake 1, I would rather not see a remake of, despite how good they are. I feel they would “lose the magic” as where HL, or BM, rather, i feel it would just have the “magic” in a different form.

Valve never contacts with humans.

Nope, they will be changing some things, so while I’ll probably take BM:S over HL1, it wouldn’t completely replace HL1 for me. :open_mouth:

Yep, half-life was great, but i’ve been waiting for this mod for ages, and i think that when its released, ill forget completely about half-life.

Lol!!! so true

I think I’m probably going to enjoy Black Mesa more than Half Life 2.

Mostly because even though the plot of Half Life 2 is awesome, the plot of Half Life 1 is the coolest thing, ever.

Black Mesa will probably be my new favorite game out of my favorite game series (Half Life).

You haven’t heard about “Operation Black Mesa”, have you?

Yes, I have. Isn’t it a source modification of Opposing Force that’s a lot like Black Mesa?

Why do you ask?

Forget about it, I just had an egoistic opinion…

Black Mesa won`t replace Half Life 1 for me… or for anyone! :sunglasses:

Except me.

And me …

oh and you also forgot me :retard:

I love how all these people are coming together to create something big like this. I won’t say great because, well, I haven’t really played it yet, and really, most screenshots released as media and the like are where the mod looks its best–why show off shoddy work?

Anyway, as nice as Black Mesa appears to be, also take into account the Operation Black Mesa and Guard Duty teams. They both seem to have high quality work, though, from what i can tell, no fancyass coding features such as the face morphing system used on the hgrunts. Still, they appear decent.

With BM and OBM, however, their hand meshes seem to leave a bit to be desired. Forgive me if I’m wrong, but last I heard, BM was using reskinned HL2 hands. That seems a bit silly, if you ask me. Why not enhance them? Re-UV them so they’re better optimized? model on the finger pads and the hand pad? When things that aren’t modelled on are animated, they can get stretchy and look pretty strange. Not my cup of tea.
OBM’s hands don’t look all that great either–nothing like the original badass looking gloves. Yeah, I understand most of it’s WIP, buuut.

Guard Duty looks well done so far. Obviously not as large a mod team, but still quite nice.

Also, BM might replace HL1. Might. Can’t say yet.

Honestly OBM deserves some praise for getting as far as it has. They started off with a bunch of stolen textures from the BM leak and repeated attempts to “cooperate” with the BM team. I can’t believe it’s actually become a respectable mod.

Didn’t know that, actually. One thing I’m not a big fan of is their bullsquid…it’s kinda…strange. Doesn’t remind me much of a bullsquid, really. The shock trooper is decent, but it could be better.

Yeah, let’s go with that. Are there screenshots of the new hands mesh, by chance?

Yes.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
