Will Black Mesa replace Half Life 1 for you?

The mod will substitute Half-Life 1 for me considering I haven’t even played the original. :stuck_out_tongue:

You are miserable person. Shame on you:meh:

Maybe you should get your hands on it, so you’ll have an idea about the nature of Black Mesa, not to mention the true meaning of quality and “awesomeness”.

Let’s see some links.

“Will Black Mesa replace Half Life 1 for you?”

I hope so. While I have played the original a lot and have some fond memories of it, I really hope that BM will deliver the same feeling that I had when I first played HL, staying true to the story and at the same time renovating the general feel of the game.

That all depends on how good the mod will be (no offense devs). But yes I do think it will replace HL for me. I found HL a bit boring at times to be honest, but now it’ll be more pretty, and therefore less boring.

I’ll definitly play it more than I’ll play HL1. When you play the entire Half-Life Series (1, 2 and episodes), Half-life 1 just doesn’t feel like part of it. The difference between the features of Half-Life 2, Episode 1 and Episode 2 are very progressive, unlike the major improvements in video games between 1998 and 2004…

For me, Half Life 2 still feels and looks like a modern pc game. Half-Life 1 is my favourite pc game ever, but I’m very aware that it is an “old” game when I’m playing it. And Half-Life: Source is just terrible… I mean…

Same here.

The game’s graphics are just plain good enough for me. I’ll take that, and very high frame-rate, thank you very much.

Yes, back when I had my old video card that I bought back in 2004, i think it was a Nvidia Geforce 7800, it actually made half-life 2 look a lot better than it does with my new one. had to replace it since it made new games run slow as fuck.

Yes

Someone just quoted me on this forum!!! OMG OMG OMG!!!

Seriously now, it’s great to know that I’m not the only one.

By the way, Valve as something to do with this modern game look on HL2, since they’ve been updating it with stuff that were first used on the episodes, like HDR, new Vortigaunt models…

Of course, this is assuming that HL1 will still be fun by the time it gets released…

I would say yes to this question.

Although Half Life 1 was an amazing game, and although the technology that brought it to us was breakthrough technology, it was still very limited in respects to the game engine and the AI.

Black Mesa has alot more going for it, far more advanced AI, which will make smarter enemies and more interesting combat.

Redesigned, more cluttered and detailed areas will make for a more visually appealing journey through the complex, and a more interesting one. I’ve always felt that, though slightly maze-like, the HL1 black mesa complex was way too linear feeling. I never really got the feeling of a sprawling complex. from the shots I’ve seen of Black Mesa, this feeling will NOT be persistant in Black Mesa.

And then there is the source engine which is an excellent platform for any first person shooter, and not to mention Havok Physics, which many of the best games to come out in the past decade have used.

These elements combined, yes, Black Mesa is going to replace Half Life for me, completely. I’ll always have a place in my heart for the original, but Black Mesa will completely overshadow it.

Si I would have black mase replace Half Life because of the replay value, but I will play Half Life for nostalgia sake

Black Mesa can’t play all my 50+ HL1 mods.

I hope BM will replace HL1DM for me… But I think this depends really much on fine tuning things like movement physics, viewhights, ammolimits, damage-counts, jumphights and distances… It’s also very important for me to have nice and clean multiplayer maps that are true to their originals, static weapons, optional bunnyhop and additional settings like r_drawviewmodel 1/0, the possibility to load own TGA files for custom crosshairs, the possibility to simplify effects (being able to remove muzzleflashes, shell ejections, gauss hotglow and to use simple explosion and bullet impact effects… the game should be customizable like HL1 was…), simple weapons 1/0 (weapon-sprites like in Quake).

I think it will for me, because I never really felt that the Black Mesa complex was all that real due to the graphics and small amounts of detail (although obviously restricted by the techonology). The story and the gameplay were amazing, but the environment itself never seemed quite there, but going on the screens of BM, I think this should be able to exploit the potential that Half-Life didn’t have the technology for.

Black Mesa will never change my life as much as Half-Life did.

If I’ll still alive at the moment of the Black Mesa release, then all things may change. I think I can replace the original Half-Life to Black Mesa in my brains.

It will totally do. Because i played the Half Life and then it became like, boring. I just skipped to ending, that’s it. Due to graphics and the a bit boring gameplay due to old engine. But Black Mesa will TOTALLY replace.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
