Why Half-Life 3 Has Not Been Released Yet

Portal 3?

Well, they work on and subsequently cancel a lot of stuff behind closed doors. Maybe they got the Starcraft: Ghost IP…

This entire thing seems to be spreading like some kind of foul cancer.
I have much respect for JPL as a voice actor, but I’m not going to hold much stock in his comment on this. I find it hard to believe that the next HL game has been put on hold because motion capture ‘can’t allow procedural animation.’ It’s animation generation. That doesn’t mean you’re stuck with what it spits out. You can still edit the raw animation, adjust positions, delete keyframes for specific bones, etc. I’m fairly sure the reason motion capture ‘removes’ interaction is because most devs just plop it down lazily into the game without making any edits or bothering to put support for blending or bone controllers in their models/systems.

Also, he said “Half-Life 3 is not in development.” Valve promised us Episode 3, remember? (Well, no, no you don’t. Because everyone’s jumped on the HL3 bandwagon)

And for fucks sake, stop bitching about “Left 4 Dead 3”. That Russian site is FAKE. If the next Left 4 Dead game comes out before the next Half-Life, I’ll eat someone out.

This isn’t directed at anyone in particular, just the gaming community in general. I’m sick of this bullshit. Sit down, shut up, and let the people do their job instead of jumping at every shred of evidence, real or not, like it’s the last helicopter out of Saigon.

Wait, you’ll eat someone out if L4D3 beats Ep3 to market? I know someone irl that really needs that…

Two official leaks confirmed LFD3 dude. So yeah, it’s very likely to come out first
For the Portal 3 comment, unlikely the game will ever happen, I can’t see the story continue in any reasonable way, not with Chell.

If it was “official”, it wouldn’t be a leak.

Perhaps Valve is trying to raise the bar too high for HL2 Ep. 3 or HL3.

Considering the fact that the Half-Life franchise is basically synonymous with the company Valve, it’s obviously a very important thing for them, something they deeply care about. Not only as a successful intellectual property, but also as something that has defined the company. It’s possible that this is a difficult and painful subject/project for them to talk about, internally and publically, and to be working on. They would want to make the next iteration of the Half-Life series the best they possibly can.

Also, the Steam platform probably generates enough revenue to float the company comfortably, so they are not really in any rush to develop and release their next high selling game.

The thing is, even though Steam makes a lot of revenue for Valve, they have toyed with the idea of dropping it, or making it independent from them so they have more time to devote to development. That’s one of the reasons the put greenlight up; to make it so the community could do some of the curation for them.

It’s a big if. Hence the offer.
Just as a disclaimer in the event it does happen, I will be doing no traveling for this, people I already know have priority, and it’s first come first served. :retard:

Previous clients?

Even if this is true, we don’t even know how long they’ve NOT developed it for. He says they’re CURRENTLY not developing it because of mo-cap issues. That could mean they’ve worked on it and hit a bump that can take them a few weeks to fix.
I also like how the journalists are saying they’re waiting for better tech when Lowrie only said that there is a “mo-cap issue” and never said anything about waiting for new tech.

Uhm, no. I don’t have any of those for anything. [COLOR=‘Black’]Though I know a number of girls who are welcome to it if they’d like.

Because reporting the news isn’t enough; you have to sensationalize it by making shit up without references.

It’d have to be a prequel, as originally planned. Portal 2 kinda had a perfect ending.

There is a lot that voice actors miss regarding the actual work and progress of a given project. While they may offer an honest truth of what they know, you really can’t hold their words as being the whole facts.

I’m getting the funniest feeling that Catzeyes might be secretly working for Valve.

Hope springs eternal and all that.

Valve isn’t working on hl3 because it’s a single player setting. It’s nothing that has real multiplayer value (deathmatch can’t compete with the other mp games valve’s brought out). Thus having no real incentive for buying things in ingame microtransactions (be they cosmetic or not). IIRC someone at valve said a while ago, that sp was dead. It’s just not worth it for valve following down the sp path anymore. After l4d3 it’s portal 3, then dota3, then csgo2, then l4d4…rinse and repeat.

Edit: dynamic mo-cap? I mean wtf? So they really think all the fans are morons?

I don’t think Valve has abandoned Half-Life considering it is their best-selling franchise.

It’s just one guy whose out of the loop. Everyone in the god damn complex doesn’t share a hivemind.

You’re right. I’m sorry.

I hate that developers have that mindset. I find Single Player games to be WAAAY more interesting than shooting other people in an arena… I want an adventure! Not some wannabe e-sport…

What if L4D3 is a codename for HL3 ? :hmph:

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
