Whoa whoah, really? Hold on a second...

…All this time people have been saying “APB”, they’ve meant some random game instead of A Path Beyond?

Are you serious? I’ve seen the abbreviation, like, a dozen times and always assumed it was the latter game. I didn’t even know the former existed. You’re to tell me people actually payed for that thing, and even bothered talking about it on a forum (here)? Why the fuck do they always abbreviate it and never specify that shit?!?

…Also, Windows 7 64-bit can’t run 16-bit code… that MSDOS natively handled. So what’s the most streamlined way to run a 16-bit executable on it? And I don’t want a whole god-damn virtual box simulating an installation of XP, either. I want a solution, not a workbehind.

I always knew APB as All Points Bulletin, not some C&C spinoff. Looks like you got your shit round the wrong way buddy.

dosbox
or compatibility mode, though you probably tried that already

I agree that acronyms suck… like those who use MW to refer to Modern Warfare, while MW is obviously reserved for the MechWarrior series. When the context is already clear, fine, but when someone says out of nowhere: ‘Did you play AJFKDF?’, it annoys me a lot…

I love GOW2. It’s so manly.

what is MechWarrior? :stuck_out_tongue:

Now you obviously own an internet if you’re here. Why don’t you just pen another tab and look it the fuck up?

Geod of war

i know, i just implied that i had never hard of it, and never heard anything called MW being referred to anything else than modern warfare

Abbreviations != Your actual assumptions

I used to play AC back on the PSX. Shit was awesome.

I have never heard of A Path Beyond, who would even talk about that crap? APB has always been All Points Bulletin, and it was a decent game until it got shut down. You can stop whining now. And for the record, Win7 > * .

There hasn’t been a MechWarrior game for over 10 years. I think it’s safe to refer to Modern Warfare as MW now.

APB has always stood for All Points Bulletin. As in, before video games existed. So when it’s used for a video game’s name, that’s going to be the first thing anyone older than 12 will think of. So in this case, I don’t think there’s a need to clarify since a pre-existing acronym was purposely used here.

Oh and xalener: did that :stuck_out_tongue: really not tip you off that he was joking?

But you can’t play a police noun, so there’d be no reason to assume APB (as a game) would mean the same thing. A Path Beyond, meanwhile, has been a gaming term since it was a Red Alert map in 1996. It’s no wonder I assumed the abbreviation meant the game which was based on years of tradition, as opposed to a 5-month-old RPG with poor taste that I’d never heard of.

A Path Beyond is both older & freer than All Points Bulletin.

You do have a point… acronyms expire. Call of Duty is alive and kicking, whiile MechWarrior is only rolling in its grave. However, A Path Beyond is less than a year older than its inferior.

Right, compatibility mode is a total failure.

Dosbox, eh?
I’ll look into that and report back.

I prefer ABP.

Man, I love HL2, TF2, CSS and L4D2 :3

Cascading Style Sheets are sexy alright.

Sure, their pastries are delicious, but don’t you think they’re a little overpriced?

Okay, DOSBox works great!

It’s slightly annoying needing to run a simulated DOS that’s an extra step, but it’s convenient to have that nice simple interface run my 16-bit stuff without needing to simulate a whole 'nother GUI-based operating system just to simulate DOS.

It was just an example anyway… but the point is, if I say: FS2 is awesome, you have no idea what I’m talking about, and even if you want to, googling can give you many different answers.
Acronyms are annoying without context :meh:
