Who will do co-op?

Okay, so according to the wiki, co-op could “potentially arrive after the release of SP, but would not be made by the Black Mesa official team.”

That’s all fine and dandy. Yet if co-op is to be made, would that mean somebody would have to copy the materials that were made by the BMS Devs?

Would that even be legal? Because according to the website, the mod is “© 2004-2010 Black Mesa Modification Team.”

Even then, would any mod deveopers that have worked on BMS be willing to take on the project? :fffuuu:

I don’t know, maybe the dev team would give permission for someone or some group to make a co-op mode?

I mean, it makes sense when you think about it, doesn’t it?

It’d presumably be a mini-mod that you’d need Black Mesa installed to play, so it’d function along the same lines as BM itself.

Inb4yodawg.

Co-op for black mesa would be a Black Mesa mod, which would be completely possible and allowed, because they will supply the fgd’s, as stated several times.

Black Mesa mods will make use of Black Mesa textures and models, and require both the proper Source SDK and Black Mesa. If, after release, you find a standalone mod with BM stuff, it is not sanctioned by the staff, and should be considered stolen

How come you don’t have an avatar yet?

I bet devs will release the source codes for anyone willing to make co-op. They said hammer contents will be out with the original game… So… I bet co-op will be out in 3~4 months after the initial release.

Yo dawg I herd u liek mods so I modded ur mod so you can play a mods while playing da mod mod mod mod modm oddmod mod mod mod mod smod soddomy mod mod dmodm modm odm domm md o mdmo d mod

Because I’m a bot. Duh.

Then how come your name isn’t Howard or John or something like that? All bots do. (In css.)

FGDs don’t magically make coop possible. There are netcode and gameplay concerns which should be addressed.

Not exactly… those FGDs will provide materials and whatnot, but the issue with Co-Op is the AI coding is designed to work with just one player - and the AI coding will not be accessible for modding.

As of this point, it isn’t exactly possible for co-op to be developed independently, unless the devs are willing to give a team access to the source code at some point. I wouldn’t count on it.

Couldn’t they redesign the AI, from what I understand you would basically have to the way they coded it anyways.

Is Synergy still going? If it is I imagine they would make it their priority to make a co-op version.

Yes, but you can’t do that unless you have access to the source code, which the devs have repeated stated will NOT be available, unfortunately. They will only be sharing the FGDs which allow us to access their materials and entities to make maps and whatnot.

EDIT: It appears I was mistaken.

IIRC, they still hadn’t decided whether they were going to release the source code or not.

indeed

HAVE NO FEAR I WILL DO COOP

We’re doomed.

My mistake then. Good to hear that there’s at least a chance

Well… so far, the above quote sounds like the most reasonable solution towards BMS co-op.

Not really… but on a serious subject… who is willing to spend the time?

Will it be a BMS DEV? A SYNERGY DEV? WHOM WILL IT BE???

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
