Yes when you play with subtitles you dont miss a thing, even the quiet dialogue that you normally wouldnt hear useing only sound, like 2 rebels talking or the Mechanic in episode 2 asking Alyx if Gordon is her boyfreind. Thats why i always play with subtitles.
Before the latest playthrou I had, i thought it was a hidden file where he said f u, but when i jumped in to the hole to the citadel, I thought I heard it, so i took the latest aoutosave, and turned on sub’s.

I’m just imagining the end of Half Life 3.
You defeat the final boss and it begins vomiting alien blood all over you and the screen turns bright red. Then you hear a voice from beyond the grave: Barney Calhoun, who was killed early in Half Life 3, is speaking to you. “Gordon! Gordon, c’mon, wake up, man.”
The red screen fades a ceiling as Barney throws another bucket of water on you.
“C’mon, Gordon, wake up. Man, I never knew someone like you. One beer and you start hallucinating! C’mon, you’re gonna be late. I hear you’re in the barrel today.”

I believe this person is Italian and is using a translator of some kind, that’s why it never makes sense.
