The only place you should try it get it is from Steam, mostly because it’s the cheapest and easiest, but also because it’s guaranteed to work. However if you wanna spend more money (upwards of $20 more) then places like Amazon and Ebay have CD-versions. CD Keys may or may not work.

Good luck finding it in a retail store, though. You’d have a higher chance with that if you try smaller game stores as opposed to something more popular and stupid like GameStop.

I got my copy of HL1 as part of “Half-Life Platinum Collection,” a box set including both OpFor and Blue Shift, as well as Team Fortress Classic and the original Counter Strike.

Steam read it as an even bigger package and gave me a couple extra games- Deathmatch Classic and Ricochet.

Yes, I own Ricochet. I know, right?

You could also try Amazon or ebay or a local Gamestop for the Plastation 2 version of Half-Life, though I don’t really recommend it, the pc version is far better, the only reason to buy the PS2 version would be because of slightly updated graphics, and the co-op expansion that comes with it called Half-Life: Decay.

You can get the HD pack the PS2 version used for PC I think. And it apparently cut some stuff out. I remember playing HL on PC after playing it on PC and seeing the soldiers placing grenades on the ground and running away. Never saw that on the PS2 version. Not to mention how much better playing with kb+m is compared to the PS2 controller.

In rural/depressing sects of north america, it is still possible to find old boxed copies of aforementioned platinum collection and even single serving copies of every Half-Life 1 game. I’ve seen them in used book stores and flea markets.

Rural areas are the best places to look for old and hard-to-find titles.
Unopened copy of Shenmue. Found it for $40 at a used game shop in Cedar Park, Texas.

Shouldn’t have opened it. I should have resold that fucker for $200 instead of playing it and realizing it’s horrible as a game.

It was like that with my British-copy EA Classics Orange Box disc - I also got HL2LC and TF2 Beta.

Pretty sure that both of those come free with their respective titles.

I don’t have the box anymore, but I have the original CD case for HL1 still, but the cover of it is broken so whenever I open it it comes apart.

How hard is it to replace the case with a fresh one? I didn’t know they still made people that haven’t done that at least 5 times in their life

In the Steam-version of Half-Life, just go to the Video options and uncheck “Enable HD models if available”.
