DNF restarted development on multiple new engines several times, which forced the team to scrap all their work every time, the BM team can’t legally do that (unless they switch to the GoldSource engine), so it won’t take that long.
To be honest we waited 12 years for Duke Nukem Forever and that game was horrible…then again they shoved it out the door due to all the threats of bodily harm…and because their money grubbing lawyers told them too… so there should be no issue waiting for Black Mesa Source…as long as its not worse then DNF…
Duke wasn’t Horrible, There were good parts and there were quite a few bad parts. In no way, shape, or form, was Duke 4 “Horrible”. Likewise, don’t go into BM expecting the best motherloving thing that has ever been released because what BM is, in a nutshell, is Half-life made in the source engine with updated graphics.
With a lot of completely reworked levels.

if a game is fun to play, it has fulfilled its goal, therefore it is good
a crappy song isn’t good because it gets stuck in your head, that makes it annoying
a bad movie isn’t good because you’d watch it if it’s on tv (and if you enjoy watching it then obviously there’s something good about it)

There are craploads of movies, songs, and other things that are absolutely terrible in comparison to the standards of their respective category, but still manage to gain a cult following regardless. Sometimes people like crappy things, because of that reason. They know it’s a piece of shit, but it’s something different than you normally see, which makes it enjoyable.

Games are like literature, or film, or any other narrative art form. ‘Fun’ is only a relative term. You shouldn’t judge a game plainly on this basis.
