Wheatley High-Poly Model

[NOT NEEDED]

Someone has already done that (i.e, replaced the spheres with ‘Wheatley’ versions) and it’s pretty good. Just Google it.

Then it would basically look like the in-game Wheatley. :3

Alright, now the model is going to change quite a bit. I’ve just had a look at some high-res screenshots and HD videos and there are a lot of differences between my model and the real model. :frowning:

Hnnngh :jizz:

Your Wheatley model looks awesome! When Portal 2 comes out i’ll make the above image my launch icon

Mail it to the Chinese so they can make an alarm clock out of it before they find out what it is.

Haha…it would make a cool alarm-clock come to think of it. :3

New update, added the hand-bars, the vertical movement ‘chains’ on top of him, hollowed out the side so you can see inside him and generally improved the scale of everything. Definitely starting to look like Wheatley now. Time to start modeling his insides… :stuck_out_tongue:

Hope you like it.

Thanks,

Harry.

Aperturesome ey? I’m just glad mine looks like that drawing. :3

Anywho, I made a sexy version of the previous render;

YOU ARE A GOD!

awesome.

Haha, thanks Spooboy!

Anyone have any suggestions of things to add / improve? Even if they’re not on the original but will make sense on him.

It’s nearing it’s completion and I’m just finishing up the interior. I’m trying to think of other things I can add to him…I might dirty him up a bit…or do you guys like the ‘clean’ look? :stuck_out_tongue:

I will of course be posing him and making some funny pictures! I will also be making wallpapers if anyone wants one? Post your requests / thoughts / suggestions / everything here.

Updates soon,

Harry.

damn, that’s incredible. the surface sort of looks like it has a bumpy texture, like concrete. maybe smooth it out more, like a toilet seat?

Thanks. - I was wondering whether to tone down the bump-map or not; just made my decision.

Just a quick test render; shows off a little bit of his interior. :3

I love you so much.

this

Looks great, lovely rendering. You could improve it by using ZBrush. I recently started working with ZBrush and it’s incredibly awesome. The amount of small detail you can put on the model is crazy. If your computer doesn’t fancy ultra high poly models you can always turn the ZBrush details into a normal map.

It’s very useful seeing how your model is a sphere, something not very easily modified in 3ds Max without messing up the topology for the subdivision.

I have Mudbox at the moment; does a very similar job. :stuck_out_tongue: - Heh, the model is already in the millions of polygons with smoothing and stuff. Maybe I will add some dents / scratches. :3

Awesome.

Well done. I understand your desire to maintain the highest possible image quality by using a lossless format such as PNG, but you might want to consider using JPEG for previewing on a forum thread where multiple images are loading simultaneously.

The model could be improved by adding some distress to the textures, they look too clean and procedural. Scratches, chipped paint, and so on at the appropriate locations where two surfaces might rub together or impact.
