What's your story on the server HD crash?

I just got on, and saw the mess, so i quadruple checked the URL, and tried my account 4 times before giving up and re-registering, at fear of 15 minute IP ban.

it’ll be hard to tell whos a noob and whos an old user anymore :stuck_out_tongue:

SAVE US DOCTOR FREEMAN!:freeman:

I was in the middle of reading a thread in the Suggestion Box, clicked to go to next page and… nothing. :frowning:
(Did I crash it? )

First thing i thought was “Theyve been fucking hacked again” Tbh it was a sigh of releif when i realised it was just the site, which ofcourse a proper shit thing, but we can move on, if it was the game files, i would have actually died lol

I was asleep o_o God, the excitement.
.

I googled black mesa, clicked forums… an i was all like “whut”

I hadn’t been on BM for a few days, so I decided to stop by this afternoon. An almost completely foreign screen popped up, so I tried reloading the page and then typed in the web address by hand to make sure I was at the right place. Only then did I look at the content and realize what had happened. What a shock!

I didn’t see it until this morning, then Spidey300 was like “hey man, black mesa died” and i was like “orly?” and he was all “yahrly” and I went “nowai!” and he was like “lolwut? wait afk” and I’m all “no prob, brb” then he told me “site up!” and i lol’d.

but no, I noticed after BM devs had the message about the HD failure, and I signed up once Spidey let me know that the site was back up.

Lame that all that work is gone. I had gotten from Cockroach to Alien Grunt in something like 3 months and then after that I maybe posted once a week. I’m probably never going to get back up to anything higher than Vortigon after this.

I created my account and then posted this

So you guys lost EVERYTHING?

Tell me you still have the mod saved somewhere :stuck_out_tongue:

I saw that the site was down, then I was lyk: OMGAWD ALEINS B TAKIN OVAH TEH BALCKMESARS!!!111oneone

Then I went on youtube and youtube’d.

Indeed.

I wasn’t here for the crash, but I was initially fairly confused when I visited today. I’m happy that the mod is safe though. I don’t think I could be held accountable for my actions if Black Mesa was lost to a hard drive failure.

The crash did trigger my decision to quit lurking and actually participate in the community now, so hey everyone, I’m Super Toast. It’s nice to meet you.

The mod files are still safe. It’s just the website and forum database which has been lost.

There I was, writing a memoir of my life, in red ink

Ok here’s my story on the forum crash.

I went on the “post your desktop thread”, trolled some people and then left to get a bite to eat, I came back and the whole site didn’t work, I tried gamernode and it also didn’t work, so I opened steam, and told intooblivion the following message:

BMS IS TEH DEAD!!1 again.[/size]

and intooblivion was like, I KNOW LOL!!!1

and today I woke up and saw that the forum was all ugly, so I realized that the database committed suicide just like 2 years ago.

moar liek 3 amirite?

So I got this post where CatzEyez was talking about her fear of grizzly bears in the Nightmares thread and, you know, bears dudes, bears are the fiercest killers of the animal kingdom, they’re awesome, they’re born killers. So here I go trying to link that to Ballsopt or Keresh or shit, but fuckaz ain’t online, man! So after bout 30 mins I go back to the BM forums to see the post/thread and it won’t open them man, the fox of fire won’t open the forums. And that grizzly bear post, it really tied my cool story together. Bummer.

cool story bro

I usually check the site once a day, so I started Windows Media Player, fired up Firefox, opened the different websites I visit daily and went to fix myself a cup of coffee while the sites loaded. Then I came back to check the sites. BMS is usually the last one because there are always lots of new messages. And then… BOOM. An unfamiliar blue and white page greeted me telling me the hard drives had crashed. At first I thought it was a joke, but after reloading several times, I noticed it was true.

I felt sad for a few minutes, but then I remembered a test I needed to study for, so I left the internets to immerse myself in the dull world of English grammar. After a few hours, I returned and created a new account.

Nothing spectacular, I know. That’s one of the biggest downsides of reality.

Thank you all for making this thread into something of value! All of your stories are very intruiging, so keep 'em coming.

Did anybody check the grassy knoll for a man with a magnetized umbrella?

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
