What's your story on the server HD crash?

Ok, I’d love to read everyone’s story on this, I think it would be real interesting. We’re all a part of the history of Black Mesa now. This will be forever remembered as “the great insert description here of may 2nd 2009.”

So, here’s mine:
I basically don’t stay up late at nights, because I usually want to get up at around 7:00am, even on weekends, but today I stayed up (or rather yesterday night I stayed up) to talk to a friend on omgpop. It was odd, because I’d never done that before. So anyways I have Black Mesa’s website stored in Opera’s speed-dial, and I visit it frequently. So late in the night (or possibly early in the morning) I noticed that the page wasn’t loading. I thought it was odd, but I figured it was probably my internet connection (and because I’m stupid and didn’t test any other websites, I reset my router several times in desperation). Then finally I saw some sort of apache file tree. With like 2 folders and an html file. I had no idea that the entire hard drive had gone bad. But then hours later I saw the message about what had happened, and then finally this morning I woke up again, like 30 minutes ago, to find that the forums (or some replacement) were back online. So now I’m right here, and I’m glad to be one of the first registered users on the Black Mesa forums

So, tell me your story!

I woke up to go at work. I got on my computer. I clicked on my Blackmesa Forums link in the Chrome’s home page. Then I saw a nice vBulletin message sayin’ the boards were offiline, so I hurried to the BM steam chat.

That’s it.

well, I went to bms.com… oh hit oh shit oh shit. Basically blaming my Friggen internet provider. Allready in chat room… so well. i asked hubi wtf is going on… and well yere its all the same

I saw the site was down, did other things for few hours, came back.

THRILLING

I came in like “What? This is exactly what the forum looked like weeks before I signed up initially.” Then I was like: “oh well, I’ll remake my account.”

So I went to FPSB and downloaded this ar2 replacement, deleted some unwanted reskins from my gmod directory, and took my dog out to shit.

Then I remade my account. I’m actually happy that I get to restart with a clean slate because I was pretty retarded when I first came around.

I was browsing through the “Post Your Desktop” Thread, but when I tried to open the next page, it didn’t load. I went to work then and when I came back, the explanation on the homepage was displayed. Pretty unspectacular

I guess i woke up, ate breakfast, did some of the usual stuff and when i saw what happened i was like **** **** *** ** **********, but then i thought about it and give myself a chance to be a part of this great community FINALLY…

So hi guys, I’m new

I was kinda hoping they’d done it on purpose because they were prepping a huge media update!

meh i woke up and decided to check the forums. I was pissed to see the site was down i just played l4d since its free till 12 today. Got bored as hell and came back and taddah the site was back :3

I wanted to browse BM forums so I go to blackmesasource.com and… :open_mouth: And then NOES!.. And then RAAAGE…

I was sleeping at 1AM EST time when I was awaken by a rude phone call about this issue. I was very sad, upset, depressed, and a bit emo for many hours while we tried to get everything in a working state. Not only did we lose Black Mesa, but many other websites important to me.

Me and my partner own a web hosting company, so you could imagine the stress and mess we have upon us.

Please, continue your great work. And know that everyone here greatly appreciates it.

Thank you so much, Black Mesa is the only working website on this server out of almost 100 others. I would do anything for this community.

Wow, guess we’re kinda … special. haha. But seriously, thanks again.

I visit BlackMesa every morning, but when after repeated tries the page just wouldn’t load, i did the next best thing, i joined steam chat. No one knew what was going on, and then finally Josh showed up and cleared everything up. The next moments were just frenzy, soaking up the shock, and spreading it around. But soon due to the diligent work of the webmaster and devs, the forums were up and running again. It was awesome.

Simple yet effective. Keep Rockin’!

I should seriously learn what the heck this steam chat is all about that everyone keeps talking about. I feel dumb for not knowing about this already.

I died.
And miraculously came back to life after talk with raw_bean. :retard:

Sat down on my comp and clicked on my Black Mesa forums shortcut in my Opera’s speed dial page and waited. The page didn’t load. I thought it was a problem from my side, like maybe there was some discrepancy with my login status and opera’s wand or cache or sumthin. Oh, and of course i didnt see no page saying the forums were down since i must have tried to come here just after the crash happened.

So i tried to go to it via a bookmark but in vain. Then i cleared my browser cache completely and restarted my browser and blah blah. I even began to think that my IP was being blocked or some shit like that!

Anyway, i finally realized that the site must have been taken down for repairs or maybe for a revamping of the forums or addition of media to the media page or something. So i tried to look around for any news or rumors which could give me some info. No luck.

Then after a few hours i tried BMS again and finally got a message telling me that the forums were down and that the admins/devs/mods/Josh Hubi were drinking tons of Red Bull (LOL  ) and working very hard to get the site back up and salvage whatever little they could.

And now, after a few more hours i came back to see if any progress had been made and i saw that they have in fact been able to salvage…well i dont think any of the old threads are left and i cant see any home page. Sigh… :frowning:

Anyway, best of luck to the BMS team and the Webmasters on bringing the site back to its former glory! We all love you guys! [/SIZE]

I had just come back home from losing a my hockey game in double overtime and im all pissed because we could’ve won that game and so I turn on my comp and as always the first thing I do when I turn on my comp is go to the BMS website. When I saw that the website was down, I just stared at my computer for about 5 minutes before reacting. I tried reloading the page multiple times but it still was the same. I ended up just playing Left 4 Dead and every now and then alt-tabbing out to see when the site was up again. It was a tough night for me…

SO I WAS THIS USER ACCOUNT STORED ON THIS HARD DRIVE FOR A SERVER WHEN THE WHOLE THING FAILD. I WAS COMPLETLEY ERASED LOL. THEN THEY REMADE ME.

But really, i lol’d

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
