i used to use a combo of Ad-Aware, AVG, Spybot:Search&Destroy and Malware Bytes. Each program would find different shit the the others would skim over. Obviously, my choice of software has gotten a little older and pricier.
All of these damned things USED to be 100% FREE, am i right?
What is/are my best options for completely scanning over my PC and checking for errors, malware, etc. Without adding any stupid plugins, useless, irremovable search bars (i’m looking at you, AVG!) and/or “PAY US TO GET THE FULL VERSiON!!” bullhonky. if possible, i’d like to see if something out there can safely clean up my registry and check for driver issues. My machine has been chugging lately and i have a feeling it’s got something to do with video drivers. (updating isn’t helping)
in short, i keep getting hangups and temporary freezes when using multiple programs. i used to be able to play YouTube videos or other movies on my secondary monitor while playing Minecraft on the other. Likewise, Photoshop has taken multiple dives while trying to balance multiple applications as well.
Any ideas?
i’m temped to just reinstall XP, but i hate using up my entire weekend re-installing and re-tweaking all my preferences and programs and stuff. it used to be a fun past time but now it’s just a frustrating chore.
