Whats the absolutely most horrid and overrated game you have ever played?

(not trolling)

Half Life is also overrated, I mean, I admire it for what it did for the gaming world. But as a game, I didn’t like it… Half Life 2 was a blast tough! Every moment is spot on and done with uncomparable care and attention to details, its really easy to see and forget how much effort was put into every single inch of it. Unlike COD wich just shovels 800 pounds of dinamite in our face every second and calls it a day…

Assassins Creed 1 & 2. The story was half decent and the combat was pathetic at best.

It’s hard to belive that HL it’s overrated. I mean… when you play it? In 1998 it was absolutely stunning.

You ought to die by the hands of an assassin for what you said, philistine.

You have to keep in mind that if it were released today it would be ranked up there with Darkest of Days. We’re on a site for it’s remake not because its stood the tests of time, but because it, like almost all games from that period, has not. Don’t get me wrong, its a fun game, and revolutionary for its time, but thats the thing, when you’re deciding what you want to play, your sole deciding factor is fun, and does not adjust for age. Nostalgia is another matter, however. Avoid that.

Troll.

Yes, but its “realistic” style would have worked better with “realistic” graphics. I mean, everything has that wierd outworldly shape. And Black Mesa doesn’t do much in therms of immersion or originality, I never felt like was in a real, breathing world, and some parts are just goddamn illogical and made me wonder “Why would anyone build something like that!?”. And I HATE the controls, I tought they where way too fast and slippery, wich worked well for Quake (and even then) but for a game like Half Life, in wich you have to do precise jumps and puzzles, its really inadequate and kinda took me out of the experience. I think that, being released in 1999 or 2000, it would have been better, it would still had left a huge impact on the gaming world and it would still be as enjoyable today as it was the day of its release.
I still admire it tough…

So what about underrated games?

I could easily mention GTA IV wich, tough it got 10/10 from IGN, seems to be pretty hated by fans nowadays. In my oppinion its FAAAAAAAAR supperior to San Andreas. The map is about 3/4 as big yet its so detailed, it feels alot smaller than it actually is. Some people say its boring because all you do is go bowling and stuff… YEAH!!! That reminds me of San Andreas, where all you did was gambling…

People seem to forget how groundbreaking the gameplay is. Most of the interactions you have with the environnement are physic based, wich makes every moment unique and one hell of alot more satisfying than any other GTA. And the level of details in the environnement and sound desing is just astronomical, a real masterpiece! Its really JUST AS GOOD Half Life 2 in therm of overall desing (if not better) , regardless of the fact that GTA IV is set in a huge-ass city in wich you free to travel in and that HL2 is a linear corridor shooter(without getting too much into details).

In my oppinion GTA IV could easily be the best game of all time because. I mean, even if you couldn’t travel freely trough the city… The story, the art desing and the gameplay themself would be enough to make it the best game of all time…

Another highly underratd game would be Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. I already talked about it on another comment so I won’t get into much details. But lets just say its one hell of a masterpiece…

jushgfvbsdbaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

GTA IV just tried too hard to be realistic, and lost some of the fun silliness of GTA: SA. I hear its back in all its glory in Ballad of Gay tony, but I just don’t feel like buying that.

I didn’t like GTA IV because the controls were just too loose. Maybe it is realistically hard to drive a saloon really fast round the suburbs, but it just makes it a bit boring after a while when you’re trying to chase someone and they corner perfectly, but to keep up you need to go faster round the corner than is physically possible!

^^
Agreed.

Ballad of Gay Tony actually is very good, but it’s not as wacky and crazy as people make it out to be. There are a few “weird” characters and situations, but nothing completely insane.

But it has parachutes, attack helicopter, gay people, really everything you need in a modern game.

GTA IV has an attack helicopter.

BASE jumping in BoGT is fucking awesome, though.

Yes, but the one in Gay Tony is more fabulous.

Deus ex

^^Got to agree with you there. Still good, but definitely overrated.

I’ll note that horrid is in the title.

That’s just untrue. Like, tangibly, objectively untrue. How was it overrated and horrid?

The most overrated game I’ve ever played was Far Cry 2, and it was truly, truly horrible. Truly disgusting.

At the time, Deus Ex was awesome - it has just aged horribly, like worse than the Gold Source engine. Part of it is the terrible voice acting - it’s so bad it turns what are supposed to be serious and dramatic scenes into complete narm. AI is dumber than a brick with a GED.

Still, it’s fun to go back and play now and then. Still have it.
