What to do before release, so the internet doesn't die.

i can hack rar lock files, but i think that most people in the forums would not do that out of respect for the devs. If everybody in the forum is given the files early to seed, it would help the ridiculous internet traffic that is expected to come.

That… doesn’t make any sense O_o
Why on earth would they ‘release it’ days after the mod’s been completed only to make sure people start playing at the same time?

In the case of BM, it would make sense because Valve wants to test it before the distribution. So they would send a copy to Valve and a password-protected copy to everyone else, waiting a week or Valve’s ok or whatever to release the password to everyone.

But what if Valve wanted them to change something? :stuck_out_tongue:

then we get to wait another year!

fix’d

And honestly, how would releasing the RAR make it any different? What difference does it make if the “internet breaks” from downloading the game when its released, or the locked RAR of the game a few days earlier? Same traffic?

I think it is unlikely, but would be funny :stuck_out_tongue:

LOL

I think that by crash he meant the overload of the homepage for the excessive number of downloads by releasing time.

So then don’t store it on the BMS servers.

Although, TBH, a steam release seems likely (unless the staff have already discredited that rumor?), in which case I would lol if we crash steam servers.

No, the “rumors” can only be discredited by Valve, but they won’t.

Whatever server is holding BMS can get overloaded as well, unless there are plenty of webpages / download servers available to everyone who want it. This is what Dutcher Sharfschuts (:lol  suggested with this thread. But torrent would be indeed a much safer choice.

I’m sure the community could provide numerous mirrors…

“We really like how this turned out, but we decided that we would rather see Black Mesa on another engine.”

Black Mesa: GoldSrc anyone?

Duke Nukem forever…

U IS SO CLEVAR

@Doedel: ‘Releasing’ it before release date doesn’t help any, it’s the exact same issue. People would crowd into these tiny forums looking to download a ‘password protected’ archive.

Edit: Oh sh- super :ninja:

it would be something the devs would do over PMs to certain members.

Even so, it just takes one of those PM-ees to give up the info before people come flooding in and news and download links come following thereafter.

You know, the guys that are so obsessed with this mod they can give two shits if the rest of the world sees it.

I had already mentioned torrent distribution for BMS, but my thread got closed and deleted. I was flamedx. Don’t really know why though.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
