What to do before release, so the internet doesn't die.

I like this idea :stuck_out_tongue:

i joined during the gamernode era, but the devs most likely wouldn’t pick me becuase i never really built a relationship with people. I’d assume people like Jambo, keresh, Fridge and all the oldies would be picked for this.

my old name:

EDIT: oh and Dillxn, I’ve been there before. It’s not a nice place.

Oh crap, I think I remember you! Bet you don’t remember me. :frowning:

i do, your avatar wasn’t a dog though. dam, now i’ll be trying to remember this all day.

I do remember that name.
I bet no-one remembers my old name. :3

To Owensboro? I know man I’m getting the hell out of here in a few short months.

Edit: I’ve kept the same name, but does anyone remember my old avatar? If anyone can guess my avatar on the gamernode forums (I think I’ve since removed it) you win bonus points! (I don’t believe I had one on the Leak-Free forums).

Was it Adam with a capital Lambda?

Raminator! Oh wait…

It would be a great idea as long as I could be considered one of the worthy members.

Starting to regret my name change.

My old name was Sersoft.corp but iirc it was edited a couple of times to piss me off.

So many different possibilities…

But I’m sure the dev’s already have this issue figured out. I can’t imagine that they would put all this effort into the game without planning for it’s final release.

I don’t think there’s that much to figure out. And besides, I’m sure they won’t put all that much thought into it before it’s time to think about such things :stuck_out_tongue:

I think the dev’s won’t have any measure apart from having other people handle it, they will be glad if some sites go down under the pressure, they would feel proud of their accomplishment as amazing developers and successful trolls.

Apart from sending the mod to reviewers, wouldn’t the dev team seed the torrent until a few other people have a copy? How long would it take?

Exponential spread through teh INTERWEB!

Edit: @λdam, that parrot is probably the most anoying gif i have ever seen!

well, regardless, the devs have years to figure this out.

EDIT:

@Dillxn

take a closer look at this and remember the reason last reason you were tempbanned.

This

I know; I was kidding.

Pretty sure they already have a plan for this.

-nevermind I’m stupid-

Leakfree is/was (I dunno) a forum. It has nothing to do with the leak of BM.

Without getting into the ā€œgive it to me early ive been posting forevarā€ discussion, I’d say that pre-seeded torrents are a bulletproof method of distribution. Even just starting out with the people that are currently playtesters as seeders could work, and would make sense (since they already have the game and all).

But who are we kidding, its going to be on steam either way

Another method, which the Forgotten Hope 2 mod team (for BF2) did, was to release a password-locked archiver several days in advance, and release the password on the official ā€œrelease dayā€. This gave everyone several days during which to download it which worked out well, and everyone got to play at the same time.

It could be combined with the OP’s idea to provide a way for everyone and their dog to have it ready to unlock and install come ā€œpassword releaseā€ day.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
