What kind of pci slots are these?

Gawd I feel stupid, but I need to go to the store to get a wireless card for my kids computer and I dont want to make a second trip cuz I got the wrong kind…

So what kind of pci slots are these?

They seem to be just a conventional 32 bit pci slot and the other one with some address extension.

*edit
Yup, the longer one uses 64 bit addresses, pretty rare stuff you got there.

He means its just a plain PCI slot.

I cant find anything that is identical to what that first picture is.

For both slots, section one and section two are exactly the same length. That third section in picture one is just as small as the second section… yet it is obviously totally separate from section one and two.

Don’t worry, any modern wireless card will be supported by your motherboard.

It’s not PCI64 or PCI-X. I have already seen that kind of slot but don’t remember what the little additional connector is for.
Anyway the rest of the slot is just standard 32-bit PCI. You can ignore the difference.

They are indeed regular PCI slots, and I’ve never seen that little connector haha, what make/model of computer is that? There’s another option here that may grant you more performance-for-dollar for your situation - get a USB wireless adapter. The next computer you buy is likely to NOT have PCI slots (as the technology is on its way out the door) but USB 2.0 (which is what you’ll get in a wireless adapter) is compatible with USB 3.0 (which is currently being released in new computers).

In other words, a USB 2.0 wireless adapter will have more longevity than a PCI-slot wireless adapter. If you’re just getting it with the expectation of it lasting for 2 months, then buy whatever you want. In any event, I recommend Linksys or D-link (although most people will recommend getting an adapter that matches your wireless router).

Let me know if you have other questions

That computer is our old computer… 2 computers ago! lol! I am kinda sure it is on its last leg but I gave it to my middle kid who wanted to be able to play games without bugging us about getting on our computer.

He just turned 13 yesterday so I bought him a wireless card so that he can connect to the internet without bugging me to get on my computer.

My connection is gonna suck and he is gonna look at porn now. I just KNOW it.

lol, that’s basicly what happen’d when I gave my little brother my old XP which I bought. At least, I think so.

thats probably better then finding this site tbh. :frowning:

Porn is much more educational than these forums.

Catz use programs like EVEREST Ultimate to check the name of the motherboard, then go to the manufacterers website and download the manual. The manual has an overview of the entire motherboard and what each part does.

I am all set with a wireless card. We just got a regular pci card. What is curious is that the card itself has 3 sets, yet it fits perfectly and works in the slot that has two sets.

Go figure.

lol legacy support.
