Scalped.
Reading Dracula for one of my modules. It’s fucking awesome.
The Botany of Desire by Michael Pollan. I’m not really a fan of the writing style, but there’s some interesting info, so I’m sticking with it.
Just finished out the Rincewind novels, now on to the last of the Witches novels… (still Discworld)
Night Watch, by Terry Pratchet, for about the fifth time now. One of the best Discworld books.
I also began reading Red Dragon, by Thomas Harris. Couldn’t finish it. I just didn’t find it as engaging as his other novels
Are you reading them by character rather than in chronological order?
Yes, Dracula is indeed awesome.
I got Gravity’s Rainbow and it is a very very hard book to follow. I’ll probably read either Alice In Wonderland or Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas next though I’ll probably be a while.
Rereading 1984 by George Orwell. I’ve read it before, but in my english class we’re supposed to read either that or animal farm, and I liked 1984 a lot more.
Also QED: The strange theory of light and matter because I love physics and I love how it’s written.
Reading both Charlie Brooker: The Hell of it All and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
@Fancy Pants: Animal Farm is just slightly better for me, if only because Boxer’s trip to the ‘vet’ was the first time I ever cried reading a book.
…
The second time was the ending to His Dark Materials…
How is The Hell of it All? I’ve been meaning to get around to it, but I’m always too cheap to order it and nobody on this side of the pond has even heard of Charlie Brooker, much less a library.
I read to kill a mockingbird in ninth grade, to be honest I didn’t like it. It was good, but I didn’t like it.
And I liked the idea of someone’s dreams being utterly and completely crushed and defeated. All of the betrayal in 1984 made it perfect.
Yes.
I respect you for your knowledge of the Brooker.
You crazy fool. I don’t think I had any system, just “I haven’t read that one yet!” Of course, now that system doesn’t work…
:3
Why exactly would you be surprised at such a thing?
“Shopping and F***ing” by Mark Ravenhill. It’s a play, and the censoring is in the title.
Not liking it so far. It’s one of those twattish modern plays where everyone has sex in various fucked up ways and they abuse each other physically and mentally.
For some reason they seem to be intent on licking arseholes.
I wish it was, at least then I could have a laugh while hating it.
Also, when I have the chance, I want to start reading Charlie Brooker’s “The Hell Of It All”, “The QI Book Of The Dead” and Steven Erikson’s latest novel, “Dust Of Dreams”.
<3 Steven Erikson.
We start reading Frankenstein tomorrow in British Literature, though I’ve already read it. Right now I’m almost finished with Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I’m going to buy Equal Rites and Mort soon so I’ll be reading those.
Dear God, yes. I love this series. Read it on a recommendation from a friend last year and I got through the entire series in a month. I just finished reading the first book over again, and it was still amazing. More even.
There’s just something in the way that he plans everything out so that you never lose your interest, not even for a moment, and he does this with build up and plot thickenings, and when it all comes to a climax, it doesn’t disappoint. I remember that I had to glue my library books back together in secret because I’d take the book with my absolutely everywhere (partially destroying it in the process) so that I could just keep on reading. :fffuuu:
I really hope the HBO pilot is frickin’ incredible, anything less just wouldn’t do the books justice.
Reply to an old post, whatever. It had to be said.
I’m onto Thief of Time, 15 or 16 books into Discworld.
Fucking right on. That book is awesome. You read his other two: “Dawn of the Dumb” and “Screenburn”?
Currently reading: “The End of Faith” - Sam Harris, “The Greatest Show on Earth” - Richard Dawkins and re-reading “His Dark Materials” - Philip Pullman.
