What have you been reading?

This thread is for people to discuss short stories, poems, novels, etc that they are either currently reading or have just finished.

Right now I am reading “The Colour of Magic” by Terence Prattchet, the first book in the Discworld series. So far it’s pretty good, it has a little comedy in it and I find it somewhat funny. Death is a pretty cool character.

Also, I just finished reading “The Sentinel”, a short story by Arthur C Clarke. I decided to read it because the movie 2001 (one of my favorite movies) is based on it. I always like stories about a higher existence than humans and this story just made my spine tingle.

It’s Terry Pratchett :hmph:

But anyway, while I was on holiday, I read ‘Lucky Man’, Michael J. Fox’s autobiography.
.

His full name is Sir Terence David John Pratchett :hmph: .

OK, hostility withdrawn. Well, your the first person I’ve ever heard that actually calls him that :expressionless: Every source uses the name Terry.
.

I actually didn’t even realize that’s what I typed :retard: .

But his pen name is Terry Pratchett :hmph:

and right now I am on my second read through of both A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess and Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson

Wow, I didn’t think this thread would turn into arguing about how to refer to an author.

Well, it stood out alot. Someone post another book, quick! :stuck_out_tongue:
.

I did you guys ninja’d me before I finished editing

Fear and Loathing, I’ve seen the film, but not read the book. Are they similar?
.

I’m currently reading Breaking Dawn, by Stephenie Meyer. And yes, that’s the final novel in the Twilight series. Let the flaming begin.

I’m reading a novel called “Spanking Shakespeare”, it’s about a 17-year-old jewish boy that has adventures in masturbation.

This also applies to the post above this one.

I keep wanting to read both “A Clockwork Orange” and “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” because the movies were really good, but I just never get around to it.

Ralph Steadman did awesome illustrations for that one.

oh god yes they are almost word for word Gilliam did an amazing job bringing it to screen and Del Toro and Depp were perfect they had just the perfect balance of pathetic, funny, and scary.

At The Mountains of Madness - H.P. Lovecraft

HP Lovecraft is awesome :freeman: . And that is probably my favorite of his stories.

Its pretty good, I’m nearing the end of it.

A Storm of Swords, the third book in the Song of Ice and Fire fantasy series. When I first read these years ago I thought they were depressing and unpleasant , but having given them another go now I’m older I find them absolutely engrossing. Gritty, mature and engaging fantasy with a strong basis in real history and really excellent, well developed and well rounded characters, with even ‘villains’ having their realistic points of view and being somewhat sympathetic, and even ‘heroes’ being flawed and occasionally mean or stupid.

HBO (the TV channel behind series like Rome - with the BBC - The Sopranos and True Blood) are gearing up for a pilot for a series based on the first book, which would translate excellently especially with the great cast they’re lining up, with Sean Bean taking the leading role. Despite some quite cool and lurid fantasy elements like undead wights and eventually dragons, the book is mostly a drama filled with fascinating dialogues and confrontations, so a decent cable budget could do it justice and it would benefit much more from a ten hour mini-series than some ham-fisted attempt to trim it down to a two hour film.

Just finished reading “The Annotated Legends” by Margreat Weis and Tracy Hickman. The sequel trilogy to the OTHER trilogy “The Dragonlance Chronicles” that are probably my favorite books. I have the annotated version of both because I find the Author’s notes fascinating. Most people would probably just read it as your standard fantasy with adventurers, dragons, taverns, clerics, paladins, elves, and everything else but I really enjoy it. Characters are well rounded and all unique, and there are actually some really good points in it if you know what to look for.

And I WOULD flame you for reading “Breaking Dawn” if I myself hadn’t read and enjoyed them all. >_<
