I’m stuck on the Thieve’s Guild mission in Thief. Don’t know where to go and got fed up after being killed.
I beat that mission last time I played a long time ago. All I remember was shooting a rope arrow down a pipe in the kitchen that led to a lower floor.
Then you have to find a secret door and then navigate the maze-like guild. It doesn’t help that the maps don’t really help navigate very much.
That’s part of why I love these games so much. You can tell the developers were having a fun time when they made it.
Mass Effect 1. After playing this so many times GODDAMN is it hard to work up the motivation to play through 100% again.
Mass Effect 1 is so rough and unpolished in comparison to 2. The awkward leveling system, the clones of armor and guns that fill inventory space, the Mako, the copy-pasted prefab buildings on all the planets… It’s boring to slog through that game sometimes unless you’re making substantially different choices/ playing a different character spec.
That said, ME1 had a much more interesting antagonist than 2.
Some more TOR. Being F2P on this game is torture.
I would rectify the situation, but I don’t exactly have any money that I could digitally transact. :meh:
^ That’s always a problem with games where the gameplay is consistent across sequels. Even ignoring graphical improvement, the mechanics are are usually a lot more polished and refined with time.
It’s the reason why, despite absolutely loving their sequels, I have no plans to play Dead Space 1 or Morrowind.
Edit: @kenny
dead space one was the best by like a mile.
Yeah, seriously. Dead Space 1 was actually scary sometimes. It was the product of EA’s sudden burst of creativity in 2008, next to Mirror’s Edge.
dead space 1 feels like it was made by a bunch of guys with the simple dream of remaking event horizon as a videogame without permission wheras the subsequent ones while fun lose atmosphere piece by piece and get bogged down w gibberish and mass market exxtremeness that ea thinks our demographic loves so well. idk if it would be as good going in after the other two as it was when it was a new thing tho
I can forgive rough, and unpolished, and copy-pasted buildings, I can’t forgive every aspect of a sequel being dumbed down. the mako worlds made it feel big and open, ME2 was almost a hallway shooter in comparison. I liked the leveling way better in ME1 and I even liked the weapon/inventory better.
I played through ME1 3 times and it never felt tedious or boring, cause it had a story, and it had heart, and substance, or something.
Yeah, but 2 has Martin Sheen. Plus, the interrupt system for the conversations was a great new addition.
Speaking of BioWare RPGs, I just happened upon a copy of Jade Empire at a local game shop. Snapped it up along with Panzer Dragoon Orta. Anyone here played it? The combat system seems very different than BW’s usual fare.
I remember renting it as a kid and wondering why it was rated M for blood and gore because there was only one scene with any of that in it. I remember liking it a lot though.
All these Thief missions seem like they’re going to be short and easy but then end up being really weird and unsettling.
I don’t think I’ve actually ever heard of someone expecting a thief mission to be short and easy before
Well the mission I just finished was pretty much go into the mansion, get to the top floor, get the sword, get out. The top three floors are all acid trips with tile floors though, which doesn’t go well with Garrett’s tap shoes and it was a lot bigger than I was expecting.
i finished hitman absolution. like a bunch of it is hella fun but the game and itss shitty story are way too tied up with each other so its not the rad sorta modular endlessly replayable sandbox thing like blood money was.
The amount of fuckin weird misogyny they throw in under the guise of the bullshit fake 70s exploitation cinema style invented a couple years ago kinda makes moments that should be cool kinda gross and shitty too like the corn field bit.
3 times is one thing, that was my 11th end-all be-all playthrough to carry over to the other games.
I tried it once but never really got far into it. I think I traded it in years ago to play KOTOR.
Also, I played Altair’s Chronicles on DS because I lack any and all dignity for myself.
I’ll probably be doing another ME playthrough pretty soon. I’ve never played as Femshep, and I’ve never played as a renegade, so I’ll probably be doing a Hateful Bitch Shepherd character.
Also, because people are talking about Dead Space 1… has anyone got any tips on making the horrid PC port playable? I’d really like to try it some time.
