So you have no comment on how the linked version of the theme has Yahtzee singing in it?
I recently finished Overlord. It’s one of those infuriating games that has the potential to be fantastic, but is spoilled by bad developing, laziness and stupidity.
For instance: every minor NPC talks, which is always a nice touch in a game. However, it’s not nice when each NPC talks but only has one line and repeats it over and fucking over when you get even marginally close to them. That’s right. You don’t press a button to interact with them, they just spout a single line for as long as you’re near them.
It’s also nice when you get a challenging game. But it’s not nice when multiple average enemies have one hit deaths on your minions and can fire them off pretty fucking quick. Sure, if it was easier to organise your minions (you can set up as many guard posts as you like on the fly) then you could deal with them better. But this isn’t an RTS, so you can’t see where enemies are coming from and deal with it appropriately. It would have been nice if there was a slow-down effect when sorting out Guard posts and things (like when selecting a weapon in Prototype), but there isn’t.
Angry.
Assassin’s Creed, Audiosurf, CSS, TF2.
Yeah, after watching the new AC2 trailer, the one with the aweosme music by Justice, I had to play the first again, so I went down to EB Games and they had it for $20 so I was like :awesome: and got it without a second thought.
It’s also the director’s cut it seems, so there 3 more types of side quests for getting intel for assassinations.
Also, inb4 repetitive game is repetitive.
I enjoy the long grind, I play the game maxed with 70FPS in DX10 and I just love the visuals, sneaking up on unsuspecting guards and running through the streets.
I could never get bored of it.
Har har har?
I’ve seen every single ZP video. I’ve watched them since he was still on Youtube.
I’ve been playing thew new Turok:The Dinosaur Hunter rehash.
It’s true to the original in that there’s no story. I kind of miss collecting spinny golden triangles and diamond eggs, though.
I finished the second chapter of World of Goo, beat Perfect Stride Continuum (HL2 mod), and I’ve been debating whether I should play Goldeneye or Turok for N64. I’m running them off an emulator so that I can map everything to a dual analog setup, but it’s still not as good as gamepad + mouse.
Playing Lost Odyssey now. Would you believe it’s four disks long? I mean, I know the old FF games were four disks long, but they were on CD’s, not DVD’s!
Well, consider how Lost Odyssey looks a billion times better than, say, Final Fantasy VII. Then consider the fact that XBox DVDs aren’t exactly big compared to the PS3’s Blu-Ray disk.
I actually heard that, for the 360 version of FFXIII, the game will ship with 2 or 3 (I think) disks. This is fine for me because all you really have to do is open the fucking disk tray and swap it, but PS3 fanboys will say and bitch about ANYTHING to make their console look better.
If it weren’t for Metal Gear Solid 4, I would fight back and say how much the PS3 sucks. But, Kojima has decided: The winner of the console wars is Sony, if only because MGS4 is exclusive to it.
RAGE is going to be on 2 DVD’s, or one Blu-Ray.
I wasn’t saying it was a bad thing that it used multiple disks, just that it was damn surprising. I mean, there are some massive games out there for the 360, and I don’t know of any others (currently) that have more than one disk.
Or one huge ass install for us PC gamers, which is the only platform that matters when it comes to ID Software games!
Maybe it’s poor optimization? Or maybe the Japanese just like to be dicks to us.
I think it’s more that not only is it a giant game, it’s detailed as fuck. Like, ridiculously so. Well, not compared to Crysis, but this is the 360 we’re talking about.
Good.
By the way, is it good? I was surprised by how much I liked FFVII, so maybe I’ll give this a try?
Enjoy your wall of text.
It’s very interesting. It’s a nice take on the old FF system:
-
You have immortal and mortal characters, the immortals get knocked out but come back after aaaages so it’s not unbalancing (I’ve got plenty of game overs)
-
The mortals learn skills as they level and keep them all, but the immortals don’t: they have to learn them off mortals or equipped items, and can only use a certain amount
-
Equipment is simplified - you only equip a weapon, an accessory and a ring
-
Weapons only add to your attack stat (unlike other games, it’s not just the weapon that determines it, but also levelling etc.)
-
Accessories give the character a skill for free. Like I said earlier, immortals can learn these skills.
There are a bunch of skills, more than in most of the old FF games, like being able to see the enemies items, type or whatever, being able to withstand a certain ailment or letting immortals use more skills at once -
Rings add a sort of minigame to your physical attacks - you hold down the trigger, a circle encloses on another circle around the enemy and you have to let go when they align (you get “bad”, “good” or “perfect” depending on how well you’ve done it).
The rings add an effect to your attack. The effects range from giving status ailments, adding element damage, absorbing health stealing items, etc. How well you did the minigame effects the… Effect… Of the ring. -
There are four elements this time, and they work in a sort of wheel. Fire > Wind > Ground > Water > Fire
Doesn’t really make all that much sense, but it’s nice to have the elements balanced for a fucking change. -
There are also “Types” for monsters (“bio” for insects, “monster” for monsters, duh, that kind of thing) that can be exploited by Ring effects.
-
There’s also this cool (for some people) little side-thing where you get to see some of the immortal character’s memories. The reason I say “some people” is that it’s a sort of animated text thing, but trust me when I say it’s generally worth the read, not for story, just for depth.
That’s the main stuff really. Aside from that, the characters are interesting, so are the enemies and it’s a very pretty game.
WAAAAAAAAYYYYY tl; Read anyway (Well, read for the first few paragraphs, and skimmed the rest.) But I get the jist of it. I’ll try it out eventually.
These young’uns have no attention span these days…
Moar Assassin’s Creed. Awesome game but wwwaaayyy too easy.
Playing Return to Castle Wolfenstein and more Wolfenstein 2009. God, Nazis can sometimes be such a pain in the ass to kill. I’m also enjoying Quake III Team Arena and some good Doom II: Hell on Earth as well as Heretic.
I just beat Ocarina of Time again and started up Majora’s Mask.
I must have really sucked at these games as a wee youngin’ because I’m getting through them at least six or seven times as fast.
