What at The Lambda teleport in OP4 right after Freeman jumped in?

While the islands in Xen do indeed move, it just doesn’t at all seem possible that in the very short amount of time from Freeman jumping through to Shephard jumping through, the island could’ve moved so far away.

its just shooting out lasers because its a cool effect, and it probably takes a lot of electricity to make that portal. Damn think of the electric bill of black mesa :fffuuu:

Seriously WTF are you talking about? It’s a portal that doesn’t transform into anything. Like what the hell would a portal transform into? A camel? A hot dog? An inflatable chihuahua? It’s a portal and Freeman jumps through it to get to Xen. And Adrian can also jump through it if he wants to, and he would also get to Xen. However, he gets teleported like 10 meters further away, so he falls down into the void, killing him.

It transformed into A GREEN THING THAT IS SHOOTING LAZORS!

indeed

The whole facility was built around a hydroelectric power plant, so they could generate all the power they needed without having to take it from the national grid.

yes, they would produce their own electrical power (maybe from the lambda core, too) - but for the whole facility AND for creating portals the reactor would be a bit small, i think.

on topic: because it was a nice GFX-effect anno 1998?

There is only one soultion to why this happend… ALIENS, hey wait… nevermind…

Seriously, I belive as it was said in game the portal could not remain open for much longer, neither, the aliens ransacking the place, could of helped the portal and it must of became unstable and in the process moving the exit portal slightly futher away from the island gordon landed on, also explaining it turning green, spazing out, and made that annoying message appear… Subject: Terminated Reason: Tried to create paradox…

But I’m sure Black Mesa was using energy efficient, green portal technology even then! Well at least we know Aperture Science was using portals that don’t require energy at all! Isn’t that awesome!

Aperture Science has different a different kind of portals, though. And there’s probably some internal power device within the ASHPD.

Maybe Shepard could of gone through it if he arrived earlier, because I remember playing HL1 in that teleport chamber and I only had a small time window so to speak to be able to jump through successfully to Xen. So maybe he just came too late.

The teleporter transformed into a pile of ash (thanks to the nuke) which the HECU where pissing on afterwards.

hahahahahahahahahaha came too late hahahahahahahaha
but seriously,if Gordon had jumped through a split second later, he would’ve recieved the same fate Adrian did, falling through space, but I just don’t understand how the portal did that, because the islands move too slow for the portal to be that far away

From my understanding they where both completely different portals.

That’s a possibility, but why did Gordon’s portal change the second he jumped through? Is it because the teleporter became so unstable that Adrian indeed entered Xen through a second portal?

Yeah. The whole place was falling apart, everyone was dying etc and the portal became unstable and closed the first portal and opened a second one.

that. They say in game they they use different technology. The older one that Adrian used required a two way communication to get a fix on a location. Hence the antenna on xen that you need to activate to return home. He said that this older technology could work but the portals location is a partially random. The One in the lambda core on the other hand can do some magical mumbojumbo, and can get a fix just from the earth base.

Not to mention i think that shepard and the other HECU marines had blown up part of the damn in order to try to kill a gargunta. And as for the islands moving to slow, let’s not forget that they are in another dimension so it’s possible that your perception of time is off and if it’s an eternal abyss with a large amount of islands, they could be moving very fast and simply because Xen is so big you just can’t tell. In theory anyway

You do realize Hoover Dam powers Arizona, Nevada, and good chunk of California?
