The german christians and general nonjews just didn’t need much pushing to get the extermination going, given their circumstances. Hitler and them just needed to push their buttons. And the majority of the jews had no idea what exactly was going on until it was too late.

that’s bullshit… my grandfather also served for the wehrmacht. if he didn’t served, they had killed him. nobody had a choice at this time - it was the same for everyone. the only choice was: follow Hitler or get killed. my grandpa was gone in english war captivity - he had a much better life there compared to be a german soldier. and he got something to eat!
Yours was lucky. Mine was captured by the Russians in 1945, shortly before the war was over anyway. Tough luck for a 17 year-old.
