Weapon Changes (or lack of changes, mostly)

Hopefully like the Hunters darts in Ep:2. That be awesome.

wooo, JK coming through with the big guns. I think this is the biggest confirmation I’ve seen of something in all the months I’ve been here. I’ll be updating the OP accordingly. Ooh, and looking at the list, almost half of the weapons from HL1 have been modified from the original HL1 versions. I think that’s pretty balanced.

Technically, they were “fletchets” not darts, but yeah, that could work pretty well, minus the glowy and explody parts.

or how about a weapon that explodes everything on a -whole-map- radius , no chages are necesary , it’s a REMAKE of the game…

Heh heh, forgot what they were called. Still it would be something like that, right!

The Glocks gonna be my favorite, and i agree, they need their in-accurate secondary auto burst. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok I forgot about that tranquilizer thing.

Still it isn’t a 1-to-1 portation. And as it isn’t changing gameplay, I don’t see a reason which speaks against it. (Maybe there is one, but your comparison was not very appropriate.)

my purpose is to blow your mind using your own doubt , which you did , mission succeded , ha ,ha

Bitch around on the internet, what else?

In HL2 it can pin baddies to walls because it’s actually a heated rebar, in HL: S it can pin baddies to walls because the devs were to lazy to remove that.
Also gabe is fat.

this, I’m adding it to the OP.

will the tau cannon blast still be able to ricochet off surfaces on an angle? something tells me yes, but eh, ya never know.

I think that not having the crossbow ammo pin people on the wall, on account of the darts not being big enough, is just a poor trade of fun for realism and/or accuracy to Half-Life.

Valve gets away with all kinds of design contrivances, like the completely silly jumping section involving crates held by ropes over an abyss, because they managed to make just the right parts of the game world believable. I doubt many gamers are going to care about whether the darts should or shouldn’t be pinning people to walls while playing, if something as blatant as those crates didn’t completely destroy their suspension of disbelief.

Now, I fully respect this decision, and it does reflect the dedication of the dev-team to faithfully remaking HL rather well, I still do not fully agree with it.

Though, hey, I guess tranquilizer darts can be made into a fun weapon in the right hands.

I usually look at it like this:

  1. fun
  2. logical
  3. true to original

any decision made should at least have 1 of these points, but if the option is to grab 2 or all of them, go for whichever gets you the most points.
In the case of the crossbow, using the source style would have been fun, but neither logical nor true to original. Keeping it original would get you logical and true to original, even if not AS fun.

another point to consider is that for Half Life, the fact that the game at least TRIED to be logical. even if many points were contrived, they at least weren’t completely arbitrary “x button on one end of the map opens Y door on the other side for no apparent reason” I had always assumed that the suspended crates actually had some logical reason for being there, but it simply hadn’t been properly presented in the game. Perhaps that black abyss actually led down to a much deeper level into which the boxes could be lowered for storage? I have no idea, but even if the logic wasn’t apparent, it was assumed to be there. The same is not really possible when you’re talking about a tranq dart that hurls its victims 30 feet and pins them to a wall.

How abut we rage about the glock seeing how the crossbow is still a mystery?

wait, how is the crossbow a mystery compared to the glock? If anything the crossbow is less of a mystery, as it’s been confirmed as to how it works more thoroughly than the glock has. Although the devs have stated secondary fire isn’t used on the glock currently, they’ve also said they might throw secondary as autofire back in if it gets too annoying while they’re playing through themselves.

Nice idea, I’m going to test this at least.

wat?

i am really confused about this:
/quote
MP5
(Uses same ammo as Glock instead of having it’s own ammo, as was done in HL2 with the Submachine Gun)

So will the mp5 and the glock share their reserve ammo like the gluon and gauss?

Correct.

i can’t remember this from HL1. Was it in and i didnt notice it all the time?

thanks for your post (short and informative(no sarcasm))

Yes it was in hl1
