Watch Dogs

yes. Because their open world games weren’t that good in the past.
Well, let’s just hope it’s different here, looks promising.

Which open world games did they make that weren’t that good? (seriously, I don’t know what open world games they have made)

Far Cry 2 is probably their worst open world game. It’s just empty and brown for miles and miles.

Assassin’s Creed games are all open world. Far Cry 3/Blood Dragon are open world. The Division is open world. Driver games are open world. The Crew is open world.

Seriously, Ubisoft is really betting on this open world thing, so I wouldn’t worry about Watch_Dogs being a bad open world game.

Well, Ubisoft has many branches of different development teams, not just one, it’s a matter of if the right people are working on it. I’m simply paranoid because there were rumors that the map of Watch Dogs is relatively small compared to GTA let’s say and doesn’t encourage free-roaming as they were trying to convince us about, that being the reason for the delay, because they knew it wasn’t “good enough” and that they promised more than they could deliver… add hype to that and expectations are super high hardly to be met.
I fear the worst, scripted, linear, movie-like experience.

Let’s be honest, they always show “the better stuff” for marketing purposes. Hell, even Valve cheated with Half-Life 2 E3 presentation.

I don’t think the open world part of it will be lacking. It might be smaller than say GTA and be lacking things to do but pretty much what they’ve showed us is being able to roam around the world and crash cars and stuff and do those random missions, which isn’t far fetched at all. It might not be good for all we know but it all the stuff they’ve been showing us is going to be in.

It’s based on a compressed version of Chicago. So they’re not going for a vast world like GTA5 or even 4. I think it’s going to be a more focused game like Mafia, where the open world aspect is serving the gameplay rather than being the main star of the game.

There is free roam in the game though. That’s where you do the little random missions. Mafia’s free roam, at least for the first one, was its own separate mode but in the main game you just went from mission to mission, even if you could screw around during most missions if you wanted.

This whole thing smells of a clever marketing stunt.

You mean making the events heavily scripted? Because that’s pretty much a requirement if you want to keep a demo video short and informative.

I’d say it’s 95% likely that this is a marketing stunt.

Wouldn’t something to do with hacking be a better publicity stunt?

So this might be a real thing. You can’t just do a joke like this with the trademark office or you get fined. It also had an effect on their stock.

Oy.

wait so what is actually happening with the development of the game

I dunno, looking at the ubisoft building through my window, they look like they’re all hard at work actually. [color=’#111111’]Just kidding, Montreal is not that small…

Well, it’s not like they only work on a single game at a time.

Can you see what’s on their monitors?

TELEPHOTO LENS GET

Oh shit, I think they saw me. They closed the blinds just like Gman! :frowning:

See if you can’t bribe their janitor to neglect installing light bulbs. Once the bulbs die, they’ll have to open the blinds again to let in light.

Were the lights in your room on?
